MLP G5 Discussion and Speculation Thread

Me neither.

Some people think we need a new main cast for the next generation.
 
I don’t wholly disagree, but I think, on the cusp of the end, some of our ponies didn’t quite get the journeys they deserved or have the character moments they had potential for, so a do-over with the ponies i still love, even if a little different, is fine by me.

It would at least help distinguish it from FiM. I mean I’d hate to have Twilight’s name dropped and then someone asks “which Twilight?”

idea: Pinkie as Psycho Pirate character that is only one remembers the previous generation

Perhaps I’m getting too worked up over the many possibilities of the new season. We are getting a new staff, aren’t we?

Jeez, if it’s 11 mintute format I’ll have a heart attack. Part of why most cartoon nowadays for me don’t really hit the mark is the lack of character development resulting from the shorter format.

I mean…if Star Trek TNG managed to prove that you can have a new cast and still rock (_{eventually, the first 2 seasons werent great}) then surely MLP can do the same thing.

well lots of Hasbro resent cartoons have been using 11 minute format

More and more, I’ve felt like Lauren Faust’s vision for the show was like a crutch character in a video game; extremely effective in the beginning, but has diminishing returns, and will eventually drag you down if you’re still relying on it late game.
 
Season One works better as its own self-contained thing than it does as the foundation of a long-running series. The creative decisions start clashing more and more noticeably as time goes on. It’s an episodic, slice-of-life show where continuity isn’t important. At the same time however, each episode ends with a definitive moral, which puts the characters on a timer. It was a formula built for impact rather than longevity, and I think the formula needed to change sooner than it did. In fact, I thought the show got better the more it experimented and broke rules.
 
G4 had a huge impact on the franchise. I’d love to see what someone else can do with all these ideas, unburdened by the baggage the show has collected over the years, and instead given the chance to start over and plan things better.

Someone had a great idea about Fluttershy’s personal magic specialty being transforming into animals.

Even in general, the idea of unicorns having unique, personal magic tricks or spells would be nice to see come back. I don’t think G4 really made use of it after Seasons 1 and 2, did it?

Nah, after that, every new unicorn was a ‘magic in general’ type.

I talk to Nicole at Everfree Northwest and she said that it’s still up in the air as to who is going to return. It’s up to Hasbro.
