They don’t need to. They don’t need to do anything. Apparently though, they want to run an image hosting site for the benefit of the community. The community would certainly benefit from being able to know something about what images were deleted and why, as evidenced by people asking in this thread. Hence, this would seem a sensible thing to implement.

I guess the thing behind this is, that artist have rights too. And they don’t give out any data because they respect those rights as well as those of the users. (For example, you wouldn’t like it if they gave your IP or E-Mail to anybody either.)
And that some people don’t go to artist sites and pull something strange, or annoy the shit out of them, which apparently happened before.

Then why do they even have a publicly viewable DNP list? If that information is so critically sensitive that they can’t possibly reveal it, why have it as a sticky on the forums and linked all over the site? If I had a particular grievance against artists who add themselves to the DNP list, I could just go down it in order and send death threats to all of them in less than half an hour. Compared to that, a single name on a non-searchable page is utterly insignificant, except when you’re trying to legitimately look up who drew a picture which you saved 6 months ago with only a derpibooru image ID to go on.

If you care to read the previous comments (you know, the ones from half an hour ago), you will see that I’m not the only one who has requested this feature.
Honestly, like everything I suggest, this was just a case of “it would be nice if this was possible” - not “I demand you do this immediately”. I was also kind of hoping one of the admins might see my post and just PM me the artist name. The only reason it turned into such a huge debate was that you vehemently objected to my suggestion for the most absurd reasons. It was only ever meant to be a single post which would probably get ignored or put at the end of the to-do list if I was lucky.

If you want a source for a previous safed picture, than just open it with an browser and do a google image search on it. With Chrome you only have to do three clicks for that. And in Firefox there is an addon for that.

Reverse image search was the first thing I tried, long before I asked here. Unfortunately there were no results from any of the search engines I tried, so I’m guessing that image is no longer available online. I’m still hoping that the rest of their gallery might be available somewhere though.

Linking to artists defeats the purpose of the majority of DNP requests. They don’t want any association with us or the people that visit this site; directing people to them is a clear association.

So that’s why you have their names linked from the upload page, and on the forums, and (previously) on the wiki, right? That’s also why some of your moderators already mention the name of the artist when removing images, right? Yep, that totally makes sense.
It’s fine though. I’ll just have to do an exhaustive search of the entire list of DNP artists. That will definitely make sure there is no association between them and the people who browse this site. After all, you haven’t directed us to any single artist…

Being snarky is the least I can do when what I’m asking for would take a few seconds with admin access, but you’re telling me to go and trawl through a list of 99 different names to achieve exactly the same result, purely because you think this somehow constitutes respect for artists. I wouldn’t even mind if you were refusing to do it out of laziness - that I could sympathise with.

I know very well that you don’t give a rat’s ass about what artists (and other people in general) may want, but you’re not me. Most artists on the DNP want nothing to do with us or our users, they don’t want the people that use this site to view their work, and anything that directs people from here to them is not something they want. This should not be a difficult concept to understand.

You’re right, but we don’t have the right to make that assumption. We provide the DNP list as a way to opt out from the site. Some artists are on the list as self-posted only - it’s fine if the artist posts it, otherwise it should go. This is for specifically these people. We are still not in the business of providing specific details on deleted images - we have no need to tell people why we remove images, if one wants to be pedantic, and only do so as a courtesy to let people know why their upload was removed or why the image they were looking for is no longer available.

They did, but if an image has a negative rating, it will display a negative number and turn the up-arrow into a down-arrow.

The symbols are horribly broken for me, showing instead boxes with hex codes in them. I’d rather not swap operating systems or jump through some kind of installation hoop to be able to view this site right… but I’m probably the only one still using XP anyway.
