The movie was certainly bizarre, to say the least. I knew something was off about even when I rented it on VHS and saw it when I was just five years old.
Incidentally, it was also around that time (1996) when I first saw the Rankin/Bass versions of the LOTR trilogy. Gollum, and that one scene where Bilbo puts on the ring and freaks the fuck out on Frodo scared me!
