I personally wonder if it’s because of the original Donkey Kong game, with the reveal that the DK in that game aged into Cranky Kong.

When I think of Cranky Kong, most of the time DK64 or the ridiculous Cartoon comes to Mind XD

I’m not sure if that’s canon or regarded that way anymore. The post-Rare DK games like “King of Swing,” or “Returns” ignore that. Seemed like only a joke Rare invented.

I remember a former Rare employee said Nintendo didn’t understand some of their humor, such as Cranky Kong badmouthing the game, and didn’t understand self-deprecational humor, or the stereotype of old people hating new technologies.
Because DKCountry was an English game first, when they localized it as “Super DK” for Japan, they changed alot of the text to preserve the humor, like instead making Cranky Kong act more like a grumpy, old, Japanese man.

The Cave Story, Undertale & Pokemon Ones especially made me LOL! :D (how would Bowser/King Koopa even work in Cave Story or Undertale from a Storyline standpoint?)

Oooh, that explains why Yoshi disappears when he touches water. I always found that confusing, that said I wasn’t aware the Yoshis on Isle Delfino were Bowser Jr.’s paint creations.

I guess that makes sense.

I assumed the character redesigns in it, like the more squid-like bloopers, mechanical looking Bob-ombs, and Bullet Bills, and such were because Miyamoto wanted to experiment with giving the Mario series a more “mature/less cutesy” look, given he kinda said that in interviews at the time. The GameCube era actually seemed like Nintendo series were being more edgy.
Even arguably WindWaker was kinda dark with it’s Tim Burton-like enemy designs, and post apocalyptic setting.

“Super” Mario is treated as his default size in the games , yet in the movie, it is considered a powered version of him

Yeah growing up I did notice that while playing Sunshine, I mean considering how Petey Piranha was defeated, and even the giant Wiggler in Gelato Beach who’s body just falls apart when defeated.
