Walt Disney Animation Studios Film Watch – Day 5: Bambi
Personally, I enjoyed this film. The naturalistic approach made the film feel more immersive, the songs were nice to listen to (especially Little April Shower with its impressive animation), and Bambi, Thumper and Flower were absolutely adorable in the first half.
The second half gets more serious with an adult Bambi tussling with a sinister-looking stag and a forest fire by Man.
The one thing I will criticize is that the plot is a little dull compared to the previous works by Disney. They could’ve done a little more with Bambi, especially with other characters from the book the film is based on like Gobo and Ronno.
Overall, it’s a nice film to watch on its own, but if you’re looking for something more plot-centric, you’ll have to look somewhere else.
And that is the end of Disney Animation’s Golden Age. Tomorrow will be the start of the Package Age/Wartime Era.
P.S. Heed the words of Thumper: If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.
