Odd thing about post dates

Hi, I haven’t been using this site regularly for almost 3 years now, so maybe this is something already well-known that I’m not aware of. I tried searching for posts from about the last time I was here regularly (around November 2021), and I noticed that the upload date was out of whack. The posts were supposedly uploaded this very year only a few months ago, yet the comments are from much earlier, matching the actual date the images were posted in.
Did something happen to the database or something that messed up with the dates?

That can happen a couple of ways - often with merges. Do you have an example so I can look at it and figure out what happened in that specific example?

This pic was supposedly uploaded 4 months ago on March 1 2024, yet it has comments from 12 years ago.

The original was, in fact, uploaded 12 years ago >>62401 (merged) (not sure if you can even link to it or if it will autoredirect - but you can see the merge under the Report tab on the image). That’s when people started commenting on it.

Then a better version of it was uploaded and the original was “merged” into the new one, bringing all the comments, etc, with.
