The band? Oh, you mean Linkin Park. Sure, but I was referring to the multiple other artists you mentioned such as Chris Stapleton who you say have been getting hits. I can’t say for sure they’re larger than life, but they do have something to prove if they’ve managed to get rock back into the charts

Yeah, but at the same time, they’re part of an older guard of rock music. I’d be more excited about younger artists getting the ball rolling again.

Okay then why don’t you tell me about some new rock bands that have had mainstream success (that aren’t pop bands or weak attempts at recreating the sound of bands like Led Zeppelin). I’m sure there’s a lot of decent new music by new bands out there even if it’s all underground. I just haven’t found much of it.

My point is, you know how a lot of bands, particularly metal bands or huge names like AC/DC have made a comeback in the last 20 years, and the music they release is, at the time, thought to be their best work in a long time but will just end up being forgotten because it came long after their peak in the 60s-80s? Yeah that’s the direction I feel like Linkin Park is headed. I honestly don’t even care about them or their music. I just don’t see rock making a true comeback.

What we really need is another album like Nevermind but in the style of classic prog rock bands like Yes, Rush, and King Crimson while not really sounding anything like those bands. In other words, a truly progressive album that comes out of nowhere, brings prog back into the mainstream, and kills off whatever the biggest genre is now. But this will never happen.

But mainstream success doesn’t matter to me as long as I can listen to the music easily. We’re living in an age where it’s easy to discover underground artists and bands and listen to something as soon as you find out about it.

It is strange to call a 2000s band old classic rock but given their debut came out 24 years ago, they aren’t a new band at all anymore. I’ll only be convinced rock is making a comeback if some younger bands made it big.

It music terms, nearly 25 years is in fact quite a while ago. Believe me, I’m the least likely person in the world (being a lifelong lover of classic rock) to say “old music bad”, but time does pass. And if it makes you feel old to accept that 24 years ago was indeed some time ago, that’s your problem.

What I was talking about in my original point is that with Linkin Park back on the Billboard Top 40, it could provide an incentive for rock to return to mainstream popularity since the genre hasn’t been relevant in about 15 or so years and the band is a very recognizable face in music. It could or it could not, we can’t predict the future and the popularity of artists and genres is random, but I want to be hopeful and say that it may.

Like you said in your last paragraph, you don’t care about mainstream music at all so why bother even bringing this up or saying all this? Just like what you like and forget about what gets popular or not.

Yeah 25 years is a long time ago, but at the same time, there’s still a huge time gap between bands like Linkin Park and, say, Led Zeppelin and always will be. Does anyone even think of early 2000s bands as “classic rock”? Eventually they will but I haven’t gotten used to it. It’s like calling the Nintendo 3DS a retro console (that didn’t come out until 2011, but video games weren’t around for as long as classic rock).

I want to see rock make a comeback as much as anyone here but it’s going to take more than one single from a “classic” band for rock to become mainstream again.

I consider anything from the 60s to maybe about 1990 “Classic rock”. But yeah, 2000s rock will become more “classic” in the minds of more people in due time, especially to people younger than our generation.

When it came to the Drake and Kendrick beef, I believe that J.Cole was the real winner. For as much as everyone praised and hailed K Dot as the winner for basically tearing Audrey apart as a person and getting the whole world to groove to him, I will vouch for Jermaine for backing off before it got real ugly and apologizing to Kendrick, he was peer pressured into responding and didn’t even have anything against him so I respect Cole for realizing his mistake and owning up like a man. Plus, all those memes from the beef about him relaxing on the beach and sniffing flowers while the beef went nuclear will always be funny to me

A bunch of songs and music videos got removed from YouTube in the US because of a legal dispute between them and some performance rights organization known as SESAC. Man I hate this type of legal dispute BS, it fucks over everybody and those who enjoy this music but can’t because of this nonsense.
