I don't understand r/rule34

I mean the subreddit, to be clear.

I mainly do mlp PMVs for fun. And I recently posted one made up entirely out of animations from RandomTripleS, who mostly creates short animated Equestria Girls loops.
I think we can all agree that he creates show-accurate high quality art.

So, I recently posted this (or rather this teaser) to the following subreddits:

After a week, the results were … interesting.

r/clopclop (126k members) and r/cartoonporn (633k members) performed about as well as I can expect - 14k views & 100 upvotes on clopclop and 18k views & 15 upvotes on cartoonporn.

r/pmvhaven (7.6k members) is mostly meatspace porn, so it honestly isn’t a good fit for my content. But it’s a PMV and I use pmvhaven to host HQ versions of my videos, so why not test the waters?

7,900 views and zero upvotes later (it’s actually in the negative) I got my answer.
But the funny thing is: more than 100% of the group members have watched my video and then remembered their macholinity and recoiled in disgust. Gotcha, you perverts! 😁
For comparison: barely 11% of r/clopclop watched what was made specifically for them.

r/rule34 has a whopping 3,300,000 members. So technically, I could expect a proportionally similar result to r/cartoonporn, couldn’t I?
5k views and negative zero votes say otherwise.

Now, there could be many reasons for why my PMV in particular wouldn’t perform well. Most obvious: They hate PMVs generally or the music I chose in particular. MLP and EQG is hated outside of brony circles. General disdain for lazy compilation video makers.
Whatever the misgivings: I would expect them to be distributed somewhat evenly, but r/rule34 really stands out.

I really don’t understand what makes them tick …
