@toonbat
I’ll prepare the wedding cake and find a nice venue.
This is moving so fast! Like Stevonnie fast!
Oh, I have a diddledong if you need to know.
Rookie mistake. Our love is beyond platonic! It’s… Steven Universe fusion levels!
I meant about calling you ‘man’ on my original comment, BTW.
Oh… I thought we were platonic!
Also, I dunno if you’re a man or not, so sorry for assuming, in case I was wrong.
The important thing is that you love me.
And I have it in written form…
Smudge dude, I love you man, and I’m pretty sure I understand what you’re trying to say. Still, I think it’s time to…
ABANDON THREAAAAAAAAAAAAD!!!!
Thanks for giving me an excuse to use this gif, BTW.
I didn’t see offense. I have no real reason to think they meant anything negative when they wrote it.
I was simply saying that I found it kind of amusing that something like this would slip by.
Oh of course, all that much is obvious. I just think those people are part of what’s wrong with the world today–seeing offense where there is none intended.
She is very strongly based off on traditional sub-Saharan African culture and people. People often see her as a stand-in for black people because of that, so saying “zebra face” will make a number of those people think of the unfortunate tradition of “blackface”. That is all, AFAICR.
I have no idea what you’re saying at this point, and will just reiterate that I can’t see any way in which her dialogue is controversial or “unfortunate.”
So a “black” person can’t talk about their face without it being an unfortunate reference to blackface?
I know. I was just remarking on the unfortunate connotation that a number of people, including myself, caught here to ‘blackface’, and which seems to have gone unnoticed by people at IDW.
@Smudge_Proof
There’s a lot of definitions for “face” and I don’t think this is using the literal definition (her actual face).
“Face” can also used as just another word for a type of person, i.e. “I see there’s a lot of new faces around here” just means “new people” not literally “new faces.”
Reminded me of The Cleveland Show’s “happy mustache face”, which would have been black guy face till they realized the problem with that. I even did the “he he he he” to myself when I read it.
@Evowizard25
I knew that, which is why labeling her sociopathic would be an exaggeration.
I mean in the comic, of course. Damn lack of comment editability!
I am guilty myself. How sad.
Damn, you beat me to it. Really bad wording.
It should be noted that there was a scene planned to give Lightning a more sympathetic send-off, but it was cut for time.
Thanks.
@Itsthinking
Well maybe she wouldn’t have been like that if Spitfire wasn’t goading her into continuing that line of thinking, instead of correcting it. {Yeah, Spitfire was the real jerk of that episode.}
I love Mina as well, if only there was an acception to canons so we could see her in the show!
