Family recipes are for family, and not to put too fine a point on it, I don’t actually like you very much.
 
Find a recipe that calls for a regular pie shell, use two cups of pecans instead whatever trifling quantity it calls for, and use a deep dish pie shell instead; that’s most of the difference right there.

Man, the vast majority of “pecan pies” are insults to the very concept; BB is right, most of them don’t have anything like enough pecans in them, and are more like friggin’ pecan tarts. I make a better pecan pie than any of you poor sods have ever had, and Bah Gawd I use two full cups instead of the chump change cup and a quarter most punk recipes call for.

I love pecan pie!  
But the stuff is so rich (well if it’s made right) I usually only eat about half a slice at a time. Though I should mention I consider this a positive thing as it means a single pie can supply me with about twice the enjoyment of other pies of the same volume.
