Only by a factor of about %10-15 in most cases. Dangerous, but not really the recipe for disaster media makes it out to be… and that’s for parental/sibling incest. For anything else it’s barely even %4.
 
There’s a reason most cultures didn’t bat an eye at married cousins. So long as it was the first time around, that could actually be the safer option depending on the area and culture.

No i’m pretty sure defects are common as soon as first generation. Where are you getting your information from?
 
And even if defects aren’t “common”. Why risk it?

Incidently, first generation inbreeding does not guarantee birth defects, as so many people seem to believe (although it does slightly increase chances). Most such defects appear after several generations of inbreeding.
 
Not saying you should go pork your sister, of course.
