…then Glim Glam comes in and gives Sunset a reassuring pep talk, reminding her she has people who care about her and that she has so much to live for.
Cinch: “Sunset Shimmer? I must admit this is certainly the last place I’d expect to find you. How long has it been? Fifteen months? I didn’t realize Celestia was taking in animals, even animals as unique as you.”
Sunset: “Who are you?”
Cinch: “Don’t you remember?”
I get it.
Good example.
Exactly, violence can work for the story but the story shouldn’t just be there to bring violence(unless its a slasher flick but I digress) The Killing Joke is a good example, the Joker is doing violent shit to Barbra Gordon to get in the head of Jim Gordon to drive him insane to harm Batman mentally by proxy. Joker never kills Barbra, but uses her as a pawn in showing even good can be corrupted by “One Bad Day”
Sombra, for starters, but that’s not the point. My point is that a severed head is less interesting than the person who carries it around and talks to it like it’s still alive. Violence should have an emotional impact. Spike’s lifeless body itself should take a backseat to, for example, Twilight losing her shit over it.
I know it isn’t the only way to do it. There are other ways to kill characters without gore. Can you name one character that was killed off without gore?
I’m with this guy, I don’t really like gore for gore’s sake. There’s so many different ways to break a heart, but ripping one from someone’s chest start’s to always look the same after a while.
Carnage isn’t the only way to unsettle. Someone breaks into your house and tries to kill you, that’s pretty straightforward. But what the hell do you do if you wake up in the middle of the night and there’s a complete stranger begging you to kill them? That, to me, seems much more yayed up.
The problem isn’t that it’s unsettling more that it seems like a pointless excuse to try and look mature and edgey.
Then I wouldn’t read it. Oh and Spike being decapitated is the least amount of unsettlement in my fanfic.

I’d be worried if you did read it, since I haven’t gotten around to writing it yet. I’s a plan, not something I’ve already made.
And in case you’re wondering how she’d blackmail Sweetie Belle, Diamond Tiara can forge her father’s signature very well (she’s probably had to deal with a lot of permission slips herself while Filthy Rich was busy with work).
Sorry. What I was talking about is that I got the idea from The Walking Dead.
Never read it. I got the idea for Spike’s death from both the comic and tv show. In them, the character known as The Governor chops of a character’s head as blood poors out of the person’s head.

Yeesh.
I’ve never been big on gore. I’ve always felt there was more room to be creative with emotional abuse.
For example…
One thing in my head is a “Sweetiebloom vs Silvertiara” story where it starts lighthearted but gets darker near the end, when Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon force Sweetie Belle to tell Apple Bloom that they can never see each other again, then basically blackmail her into being their servant. Isn’t that more fun than a severed head?
I am serious. Oh and nice picture of Fry. I really love it.
If you think that’s dark, then you should hear about the one part where Aria chops off his left arm and impales his right eye. And the time where he cut off Twilight horn and wings.
Wow, that’s a cheap shot.
Here’s a thought: instead of killing Spike, why not do something that, while technically more family-friendly, will hurt Twilight far, far worse?
Why not have the bad guy get in Spike’s head, and let Spike attack Twilight? Most of the big battles of FiM and EqG are fought emotionally as much as physically. What could undermine Twilight worse than her most faithful companion turning against her? Especially if she has to confront the ways she’s genuinely mistreated him over the years.
No. The main antagonist (whose name is Helldrine by the way) wanted Twilight and her friends to leave the school, so he and his people could live in harmony. Twilight tried to talk them out of it but he (Helldrine) had enough and hacked Spike in the neck. He then chopped Spike’s head off completely and kicked the head like a soccerball as blood sprayed everywhere. Twilight tried to avenge her fallen friend,|| but she got stabbed in the navel and beaten the tar out of her (don’t worry, she is alive).||

…Why did they kill Spike? Did they feel the tiny little purple dog was a legitimate threat?
Flash tried to sacrifice himself to take on the villain’s militia after Spike was decapitated, but ultimately failed and got himself killed. That’s my reason.
