I will say him being used as a tool for comedy can be taken too far, becoming a butt monkey of the series. He isn’t often taken seriously, both in the show and by the writers.

See, I don’t like the Sparity shipping for a number of reasons, surprisingly, my love of Rarijack is actually low on the list. I like Spike, I think he is a great character done right. He has existential, confidence and identity problems that make him genuinely interesting despite his common use as a tool for comedy (which I love XD).
 
The thing is though, I see Sparity as a disservice to not only Rarity, but more so on Spike’s part. Spike likes Rarity on a very physical level, yet he loves her as a friend like all the others. His romantic interest in her seems to be, from what the show has presented, totally on her appearance. Spike has let his feelings be known to Rarity, and she didn’t reciprocate them. Spike not only deserves someone who he likes for their appearance and personality(in a romantic way), but also someone who likes him back in equal measure. Rarity simply doesn’t.
 
And on Rarity’s side, as said, she simply has shown no interest in him in that regard, and Rarity is the easiest to tell on that front as she wears that emotion on her metaphorical sleeve. She deserves someone who likes her for who she is, not just for her physical appearance.  
It is what it seems, a little boy’s crush on a woman who is attractive. He and her have grown closer as friends, but that’s it. Rarity cares for him deeply like one would care for a little brother.
 
Since the age thing is so indeterminable, and the process of dragon growth hard to understand, saying, ‘Spike will get older’, isn’t a legitimate excuse even IF the relationship was deeper and mutual. Dragons live in this show for over a thousand years. Ponies seemingly live to 100 plus, if Granny Smith is an indication. And in case you want to use that ‘Greed growth’, excuse, that had a horrible effect on his personality that could only be solved by reverting back to his true, child state.  
It is POSSIBLE Spike will reach some sort of adolescent/adult form before Rarity’s death, but since we simply don’t know, it is equally (in fact, more probable considering life longevity) possible he won’t. And Rarity is supposed to just live her life alone until Spike ages? Puh-lease.

The attraction is there, at least on Spike’s end though Rarity does greatly care about the dragon. Him growing up, and the two seeing if a relationship would work. All that is needed is a good writer or author to tell the story.
 
Hell I may right a fanfiction, though I’m not sure how well I would do, going over such a scenario.

I would personally recommend The Vinyl Scratch Tapes, where The DJ and Octavia work together as radio show hosts. It is highly entertaining, really showing how such two different ponies could become friends. It also leaves open to interpretation, until perhaps the end, the nature of their relationship. If you just want them to be friends they can be.

Octavia and Vinyl Scratch is one of my major ships, but I have such backed up with such fanfictions as The Vinyl Scratch Tapes, Octavia and Vinyl: University Days, and My Roommate is a Vampire… With this I personally dislike “ mute” Vinyl.
 
I much prefer her as the loud, boisterous, rash, energetic mare who loves teasing her best friend, getting into trouble, and thinking herself great. In many ways, my view of the DJ is a mix of Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie.

For someone who is using the whole “everything is fanon!” is funny for using this claim because there is no evidence this isn’t even the case. The whole indent in his eyes can mean goggles impression or tiredness. That in itself is fanon too, but it goes to show that there is no evidence in that claim.
 
I just smell bias and really nothing else. Speaking of fanon, I myself absolutely loathe Octavia x Vinyl, but I stay away from that ship. It’s not my cup of tea.

Well genius, that is I feel largely the point of fanon and fanfiction, to breath life and personity into characters who may not have much offered in the show proper. Background characters, the Wonderbolts, the Royal Sisters have all show they need more depth and characterization… Though perhaps less so Luna. So basing the ship on fanon and canon should be acceptable, unless you’re too stubborn for such. There is even the comics to draw on. Also, I am firmly against the hatred many show Flash Sentry and actually ship pony Flash with Twilight. Though he is not the only one I ship my favorite bookworm with.
 
Moving on, I strongly argue that age shouldn’t matter as long as both parties are consenting adults! Hell, technically we know no one actually age and can guess on only a few. The Royal Sisters are over a thousand years old, Discord is eons old, and if the candles on the birthday aniversery cake are any indication Rainbow Dash is twenty one. Personally I see the Mane Six as all adults, between late teens to early twenties.
 
Heck, it is because I don’t believe age matters that I so strongly ship Rarity and Spike, again with the dragon being an adult, as well as Twilight Sparkle and her mentor Princess Celestia. As such, age shouldn’t matter between Rainbow Dash and Soarin as long as a one can show why there would be chemistry between the two and a relationship developing. Lastly the show doesn’t need to show Rainbow is particularly a fan of Soarin, simply her fangirl view and admiration towards the Wonderbolts as a whole and wish to be one is enough of a starting point to get the process going.

Not only is it kinda creepy, since Soarin is no doubts years and years older than Rainbow Dash, he is also the worst Wonderbolt we have seen named. Not to mention he is bland. He likes pies and gets distracted by mares when he flies. Without involving fanon, he doesn’t have much else.  
Rainbow on the other hand is a character overwhelming in her depth and character. So, shipping those two on such a large scale makes me think of it like a less offensive version of FlashLight.
 
Also, just to be clear, Rainbow has never been stated to be a particular fan of Soarin, just the Wonderbolts in concept and execution, and arguably Spitfire.

Maybe some of us are sick of the insistence by others that Rainbow is lesbian, thus shipping Dash and Soarin partly to go against the meme. That and the latter is a Wonderbolt, one of the best, so given how the former is a fangirl who aspires to be one as well I feel she would jump at the chance to be in a relationship with him.

Eh, considering that is pretty much the only het ship among so many lesbians ones, and that Dash is the fandom bycicle, it’s a way to even things out. Besides it’s not like anything is gonna happen in the show you know.

Well people it happened, as of right now soarindash is the most popular Dash ship, only by a small margin though.

I have failed, it seems Caramac(Why didn’t I see this one coming) (268) should have been on 8th place. At least I know there is an easier way to check what ship has the most posts now. Turns out the tag list on the upload page is sorted by most images to make the popular ones easier to find.
