I think the general spirit of it is that if a work is too obscure to have experienced Rule 34, the moment someone mentions that the obscure work has never been /34/’d, somebody on the internet will see this comment and is then almost guaranteed to invoke rule 35 and immediately make porn of it.
Because people on the internet are always looking for new (or at least, previously-unheard-of) things to make /34/ porn of. :P

Yeah, but my point was that not everything does make it big, so there’ll always be stuff that doesn’t get 34’d because not enough people know/care about it.
But that’s how you know you made it big, that people love you/your series/characters that they start drawing lewds. XD
Another reason not to. Still, some people seem to think of it as a promise that there’ll be porn of whatever you want, rather than a warning to expect porn of things you’d never have expected or wanted to see porn of.

Well, yeah, but it can also fail, so you can’t expect smut of, say, every webcomic out there, or some obscure manga about a girl with a chainsaw. I suspect these two rules were never meant to be taken literally.
Even then, rule 35 (If porn of it doesn’t exist, porn of it will be made) has a habit of sneaking up on you.
No, I mean it’s possible to avoid having it made for your stuff. But, like I said, it only happens when whatever you did is so obscure that it flies under the R34 radar.
But yeah, filters are good.
I know, I just avoid it personally. I even have the “eplicit” stuff set to hide on my filters on this site personally.
