No, I can totally see Pinkie just covering her with flowers, and Maud just humoring her, or not caring enough to take them off.
I’m well aware, but I highly doubt they would treat their IP so flippantly when potential lawsuits are on the line.
Look at the hoops Hasbro jumps through to maintain and resurrect the trademarks on Transformer names alone.
You’d be surprised. “Professionals” aren’t usually quite as professional or removed from normal life as you’d think.
Right. A multi-billion dollar corporation whose business is toys and has legal, engineering, and quality assurance teams to review their R&D work just up and said “lol Google it.”
I’d be more likely to believe that they didn’t have a canonical mark on file, saw what was popular, realized it was just a recolor of one of their existing designs, and approved it.
A black diamond is kind of an easy take-away from that one tiny, momentary glimpse, though; you need to be a pretty deep fan of the show to recognize an oddly-shaped blob of grey pixels as Tom. It’s rather obvious once it’s pointed out, but People Who Care are the only ones who are gonna stick around long enough for any of that.
Tex, I’m convinced that those toymakers fell into the same trap that countless other Maud artists fell prey to: googling “Maud Pie Cutie Mark” and seeing that damn gemstone among the first few results.
She wasn’t covered in flowers, either…
Do those toy producers even know who this character is? lol.

Not everyone realizes that the show and the toys often don’t line up.
Which is kind of ironically beautiful, because given “Hearthbreakers”, I’m sure that that’s how their family hides Easter Eggs… Easter rocks :p
