War has plenty of rules. No chemical weapons. No blinding, POWs must be properly taken care of, etc.
Unless we’re talking WWI and WWII.
 
Those are more things to further punish the losers. On the battlefield, people will likely do whatever it takes to get home themselves.

The tanks, rifles, truck and uniform design are WW2 era. The helmet she is wearing is also different design than a WW1 German Pickelhaube, despite the similarity of a top spike.
This picture has a lot more in common with the second war than that spike has in common with the first.
