I got to agree with you.
No! If she kills herself, someone else will have to be worst pony!
well,america IS a funny word…
Oh, ok then.
The reason why it’s known as the American Way is because these were the founding principles of the USA as well as its expansion throughout the 18th and 19th centuries.
It is unfortunate that many Americans don’t live by the American Way, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t those that do, nor does it mean that these principles don’t ring true amongst those that follow them. In truth, those in this country that tend to complain about it don’t really live by the American Way. They want everything handed to them and are upset that they can’t have it. But for those that love this country and for what it stands, they will practice the American Way and be better for it.
And the truth is that there are a lot of other countries where this rings true as well. I’m not trying to say that this is something uniquely American. The issue is that these were the founding principles of the USA. Even if they were to fade from the minds of all but a few, that would still be true and it would also be true that those few would have their words ring true.
Thanks, though I find it counterproducent to directly relate values such as those with a specific country, specially one that is often seen in an antagonistic light by many other countries.
You missed the “must be justified in higher terms” part.
>>America
>>Not materialism
“The American Way of life is individualistic, dynamic, pragmatic. It affirms the supreme value and dignity of the individual; it stresses incessant activity on his part, for he is never to rest but is always to be striving to “get ahead”; it defines an ethic of self-reliance, merit, and character, and judges by achievement: “deeds, not creeds” are what count. The “American Way of Life” is humanitarian, “forward-looking”, optimistic. Americans are easily the most generous and philanthropic people in the world, in terms of their ready and unstinting response to suffering anywhere on the globe. The American believes in progress, in self-improvement, and quite fanatically in education. But above all, the American is idealistic. Americans cannot go on making money or achieving worldly success simply on its own merits; such “materialistic” things must, in the American mind, be justified in “higher” terms, in terms of “service” or “stewardship” or “general welfare”… And because they are so idealistic, Americans tend to be moralistic; they are inclined to see all issues as plain and simple, black and white, issues of morality.”

This was just on.
That’s uncanny.
