Interesting, shame, ‘cause Sonic 3 had impressive music for Sega Genesis game standards. (Though, MJ has always been rather reclusive. He didn’t even credit himself when he guest-starred on the Simpsons as that Leon guy, and was just credited as “John Jay Smith.”) The Sega wasn’t as impressive as the SuperNES when it came to sound quality, but it still had some good music on it’s games.
 
Yeah, I saw a Youtube video comparing those music themes to, and they are quite uncanny. The vocal clips during the mini-boss theme do sound very MJ-ish.

Michael claimed that due the sound quality of the Sega Genesis/MegaDrive, he wanted his name off of the project for Sonic 3’s Sound Track entirely. That’s why his name isn’t in the credits.

Come to think of it… The Mini Boss theme has MJ written ALL over it with no denial. You can hear voice samples of him going “HOOO!!”, C’MON!” (or “SHA-MON!!”).

Indeed, the Japanese developers at Sega, actually wanted to make him “cool,” and appealing to American audiences. His colors are even red, white, and blue, like the USA flag.
 
I hate to say it, but I’m glad his human GF Madonna was scrapped. (Taking the whole “Princess Elise” fiasco into mind.)
 
It’s also rumored that Michael Jackson contributed to the Sonic 3 game soundtrack.

Shit. I just googled it and you weren’t kidding. Sonic is so ‘90s’, it hurts. He was based on Bill Clinton, Michael Jackson, and Santa Clause. He had a girlfriend named Madonna and was voiced by the guy who played Urkel in the American Cartoons.

Sonic supposedly was loosely based on Michael Jackson, (before he went weird) and Michelle Creber voice of Applebloom did a cover of “Beat It” recently. So it makes sense oddly.
