Anime has been an important industry in Japan for decades,and even though we had some series coming over here and there over the years,It wasn’t until the 90’s and 00’s when it got popularized in the western(of course that depends of which parts of the west we are talking about,since certain European countries have had a big market of manga/anime before hitting America).
 
Voice acting in Japan,like in the states,is very important,but apparently in Japan they take it just a bit further.
 
So as a result,In all these years,lots of western anime enthusiasts became acquainted with the Japanese voice actors and acterss.
 
In the 90’s (especially in the late 90’s) names like Megumi Hayashibara,Akira Ishida,Norio Wakamoto,Kikuko Inoue(who is Celestia’s voice actress in the Jp dub,btw) became mayor names in voice acting in the west,even though the careers of some of them started years before.
 
In the 00’s and onwards the anime/manga market became strong and western fans,became more and more Knowledgeable with Japanese voice actors.
 
TL.DR: The reason people going crazy about the Jap dub is basically because of the anime industry and the effect it had on the western consumers.
 
Tentacle porn,general hentai,joke reason or not,is actually a secondary reason.

True. The entire series is underrated even for a Shojo series, sad enough. Pretty Cure dominates the Shojo anime industry in Japan.

I don’t understand this fascination with the Japanese dub. This show has been translated into dozens of languages, and I don’t see why this should be worthy so much attention.
