i dont think i understand what you are trying to say. a joke doesn’t get old when it’s not a joke but a character trait based off fan interpretations of 5 second frames. background ponies are nothing more than filler and were never meant to have any development. for instance, someone spotted an animation error in the very first episode. but instead of treating it as what it is, they expand upon it and created Derpy. someone spotted out a pony that looks like toothpaste and ponyville now has a dentist. and along with dr whooves, lyra the human obsessed pony. and let’s not forget the many many ships. if we dont give the background ponies some character interpretations, mlp would be a boring show full of randomly generated cardboard cutouts with no personalities at all.

It was a cute idea at first, that only one pony has heard of these things called ‘humans’ and some think she’s crazy, but when you turn to fandom and want to see your favorite background pony fleshed out and instead get the opposite - nothing done with her at all ever that does not have to do with the way she sat once for a grand total of five seconds - it’s kinda sad. Also, a joke gets old after the ten trillionth time, and we’re past that point.

my personal headcanon has the ponies as some distant evolution of humanity (possibly created through genetic experimentation) and lyra is an archeologist.

Me too. It was kinda funny when it was just a pony who sometimes had “odd habits”. But then it got completely out of control and became absolute human fetish.  
And it’s kinda stupid that fans portray Lyra like this just because of that one scene while ignoring all of the other ponies who also sat like that.
