Yeah, but its hardly pony related.
And, to add on to my comment, here’s the post they made: http://ponykart.net/we-ded/
Wait, that’s the wrong series.
There’s also possible issues with trademarks. Hasbro has to (as in, is legally obligated to) defend them to keep them. So it’s not like they have much of a choice in the matter - they either send a nastygram or risk losing the entire franchise.
Anyway, the solution is simple: run the whole project anonymously over Tor, then distribute through Pirate Bay. Also keep the code and other assets open from the start. That way, you can’t be sued since no one knows who you are, and even if the project is interrupted it can be continued from where it left off.
Of course, at that point you’re a part of an outright criminal conspiracy, which may be a plus or minus depending on your preferences.
The thing is that making a game took longer that pictures or plushie so these guys are likely to finish what they’re doing before encounter any problems. Maybe one day they’ll go after people that create a complete website about them doing plushies or commission, but just avoid to have a permanent platform for that should be sufficient.
Why don’t the developers of this game just send Hasbro’s legal representatives an email like:
“Dear Hasbro,
we have completely shut down the project following your request. Unfortunately, we got hacked and all of are assets were captured by anonymous dev team in no way associated with us. Have fun trying to contact them.”
No, they can’t. They also have the same laws if under the same situation.

I hope so. I’m not a huge fan of fighting game, but it must sting like a bitch the fact that they can’t finish what took a lot of time and effort.
(totaly gonna get b& for that but tell me your not thinking the same thing?)
