Spike acted just like a dog before the magic made him talk in Friendship Games, and he implies that his intelligence was unchanged. He was always that sentient.
 
Also look at that face. Princess knows what’s up.

No, i can only see this as cute if  
  1. Spike is turned into barking dog himself who barely understand Twilight  
    or  
  2. Female dog is as intelligent as Spike and can also talk
     
    It was a mistake to make Spike a dog in the first place, since his counterpart is a sapient higher level intellectual creature like ponies and dragons, so making him equivalent of Winona in this world doesn’t make sense. Even Angel Bunny was turned into Angel bunny, Spike shouldnt be a pet in the first place.

Its not just ability to speak. He can understand the line of thought of Twilight and other humans like he was an equal intelligence level, and thus shouldn’t be dating inferior animals who actually act like dumb dogs following basic instincts.

Never mind which girl Spike the Regular Dog has a crush on. What weirds me out is that he’s apparently still attracted to normal, non-talking dogs. Where’s Jack Harkness when you need him?

On one hand, this universe’s spike is a dog so any relationship with a human is kinda out of the question unless the writers go for absolute broke and start doing crazy stuff the last season but on the other, are any of the other dogs as sentient as he is? I get MLP animals are obviously smarter than regular animals but still, its like a human brain in a dog’s body falling for an actual dog.

It was more than obvious that dog Spike had no romantic feelings for human Rarity so I don’t see this as the end of Sparity, like, at all.  
How could this be the end of something that wasn’t even a thing in the first place in EG world?  
Plus remember that EG season 2 was in development - and takes place - even before of FIM s8, and we had Best Gift Ever taking place AFTER s8, so “end of Sparity” my ass.
