Something that can be shortened to one word so she doesn’t have to put much effort into saying it either.
Like Stormfront, to be cool and sound vaguely dangerous.
or Marney, to reflect her reformation and more relaxed mental state as a result of.
It’s not like we have to agree. I just really like discussing things like morality and the nature of life and such :D
jim miller is a gag.
@Badumsquish
So… agree to disagree, I guess.
For what it matters, I really love the idea of magic bringing a clone into existence, but the clone gains full sentience and decides on her own to become her own individual.
She goes out of her way to come up with her own new name and cutie mark. Trying to do up her hair in a new way to avoid being mistaken for the other original pony.
Trying to make her voice sound original and moving to a new city to start a new life.
Seriously, I do stuff similar to this in my Fallout 4 play throughs with a few alternate start and role playing mods to do “escaped synths” role play sessions. :p

Well if you’re just going to cherry pick what “counts” as evidence and claim the rest isn’t valid then this whole discussion is as pointless as trying to argue with a flat earther.
Pretty much the whole episode. Honestly I’m running out of things to say that aren’t repeats of what I’ve already said :P
@Badumsquish
@Badumsquish
That’s the thing, though. They were actually shown thinking, feeling, and learning in the episode. A lot, too, like it wasn’t a once or twice thing. Not to mention, the one that was around a little longer and actually spent a bit of time with ponies was considerably smarter and more pony-like than the rest. Then a later episode shows they absolutely learn enough to live like normal ponies if given the time to learn. It’s a much bigger stretch to assume they’re unthinking unfeeling “copies”, because the show pretty strongly showed otherwise :P
🤔!
But what if there never was a Pinkie clone left over, and that was actually EQG!Pinkie?

Sight gags included solely for the sake of being sight gags are not something I consider “irrefutable proof”.

At the time of the episode, the writers clearly intended for them to not be able to “think, feel, act, and learn just like real ponies.” But someone in the animation department decided to change that by adding that one escapee to Saddle Row Review, proving conclusively that the clones are every bit as “alive” as any other pony is. If you take Too Many Pinkie Pies in a vacuum then yes there’s no real proof one way or another, but with Saddle Row Review we have clear and irrefutable proof of Badum’s viewpoint.
Well, your argument is based on the assumption that the clones weren’t able to think, feel, act and learn just like real ponies, but Badum doesn’t agree with that. Neither of you can prove that your assumption is correct, so this whole argument is really going absolutely nowhere. So let’s just stop before the mods have to intervene. Alright?
You’re missing the point. Your argument is based on the assumption that the clones were able to “think, feel, act, and learn just like real ponies”. And I don’t agree with that. I think the test Twilight devises works because, like any reasonably sophisticated computer program, they can only give the appearance of being thinking beings. I mean, think about it… the reason the real Pinkie wins is because she is capable of grasping the stakes and ignoring the random impulses that normally interest/distract her to focus on the task at hand. The clones can’t. For all their appearance of thought, they are incapable of not acting based on their “program”, derived from the original. It’s why they are constantly compelled to act randomly. It’s why they traveled around saying fun over and over again. It’s why they could not ignore distractions even when their “lives” were on the line. They don’t have a say in any of that. They don’t think. They don’t learn. They aren’t alive. And Twilight returning their magic to the pond is no more evil than uninstalling a program you don’t like.
I find those to be distinctions without difference. When you get down to it we’re just electrical impulses and chemical reactions driving a pile of meat, and it makes our lives no less meaningful or valuable. They thought, therefore they were. Besides, I believe an AI or an artificial life that’s capable of thinking, feeling, and learning just like a human being is absolutely an individual entitled to the same rights as we have. Not to mention, just that the ponies didn’t even consider this evil enough: how meaningless must the lives of others actually be to them to not even consider the possibility that these artificial ponies who think, feel, act, and learn just like real ponies are every bit as “alive” as they are? :P
you have a problem with that?
Well, your argument is heavily predicated on semantics, so one can’t really say you’re any more or less right than Badum. But I personally would consider the Mirror Pool clones (also the Mean Six) to be just as alive as the original.
And it’s not like the energy that made them was destroyed anyway. It was just returned to the source, ready to take the form of whatever pops into the pool next.
@Badumsquish
I mean don’t forget, the pool duplicated Maud’s rock once too. And unless we suddenly get a revelation that Boulder is actually alive and has thoughts and hopes and dreams, I’m inclined to think all copies are just as absent actual life. They may exist, they may move, but they aren’t alive.
The way I’ve always imagined they’d work, is it’s closer to a partnership than anything else. They’re bought and sold, and you “own” them, but it’s voluntary on their part. All they really want out of it is to do their designed function, but you have to care for them and treat them well and be a friend and all that as well. At the same time they have the same rights as ponies: mistreating them is no different than mistreating a regular pony, and they’ll defend themselves or leave if you do it. They’re a handful, and a real responsibility with ups and downs to own, and most only own one or two at most: GMHAA just ended up with a whole houseful XD
I was going to make a comment about everything in your house being alive and sentient, but then I remembered Peewee’s Playhouse…
