Yes I agree, it’s likely a generational thing coupled with the Weird Al effect - where the younger generation only knows of a meme because of a parody version of it from a newer source.
It’s probably an age thing! I thought of Mighty Mouse immediately, but that’s probably because I remember it being syndicated on Saturday Morning cartoons…

It’s fine. Don’t overthink it.
The quote was changed enough from its original version that it makes it a reference to Liar, Liar instead. Without the proper way to sing the the original line, there is no way of knowing it is Mighty Mouse.
But if A is a reference to B, which was itself a reference to C, then surely A is a reference to C also? Despite the fact that a lot of people who have heard of B (Liar, Liar) have probably not heard of C (Mighty Mouse) in this case, it still counts?
Or am I misapplying logic implications? >_>
