I know. Doesn’t mean I can’t be a history buff. And of course russia would have russians in ukraine.
What does Ukraine being a part of the USSR have to do with STALKER being, quote, “about the Russian people?”
Being a part of a union led by Russia does not make you Russian, you know.
Edited
I know! It’s crazy how disaster turns into something… beautiful.
Given how long ago the chernobyl disaster happened, knowing that Pripyat is like a time capsule from Soviet times makes want to go and explore that place even more!
It’s Ukraine. It also happened during the “Soviet” thing. (I would know!) Ukraine was under Soviet power at the time.
Since when is Chernobyl in Russia?
And that’s why I got confused, both were about the russian people.
Both are excellent games though, in my opinion. They are related in that they share some of their development team members.
STALKER uses the book “Roadside Picnic” as it’s inspiration. Metro is taken from the book “Metro 2033”, whose author used “Roadside Picnic” as a source of inspiration. This is why the two games share a lot of common terminologies and themes.
In the case of Metro, what we know is that Moscow was nuked and radios can’t seem to reach anyone outside the city. How extensive the apocalypse is, though, remains unknown. It’s due to be expanded upon in the upcoming Metro: Exodus game.
STALKER, on the other hand, bases it’s world in one of the only real-life localized apocalypse zones; the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. The part of the game that makes it an alternate universe to our own doesn’t contribute to the apocalypse, merely adds fantastical elements to it. Although there are suggestions that The Zone is growing beyond the borders of the CEZ, nothing to follow up on that potentially apocalyptic scenario has occurred and as far as we know life outside The Zone is normal.
I thought Metro and STALKER was the same universe. I was wrong…
If I were any good with posting images in comments I’d compare the energy drinks and Cossacks Vodka from Stalker, against the Nuka Cola from Fallout…
It’s got absolutely nothing to do with Fallout besides radiation. If you wanted to be accurate, that could be applied to Metro 2033 but not Stalker.
Yeah, it’s Ukrainian and has nothing to do with Fallout except the fact there is radiation in there, but… yeah.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, though this is specifically referencing a line from the first one, Shadow of Chernobyl.
