Please don’t reduce me to such shallowness. While the looks, indeed, play a part, they are but a fraction of what Chrysalis is to me.

That would be amazing. It wouldn’t even take much tweaking to canon, as canon ponies already seem fine with the concept of brainwashing. Reformation spells exist, after all.
Now I’m trying to imagine pony world where Chrysalis is not the bad guy and she needs to rescue her hive from the evils of “friendship”.
