Well, in my fanfic he and Pumpkin get enrolled in Magic Kindergarten. (Flight is a magical trait, as seen in the Tirek and Starlight 2-parters)

There’s also Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo. Scootaloo didn’t train him directly, but she did give him a good pep talk when he was getting bullied for being the worst in his class by telling him how she struggled with flight as a filly, and showed how far she had come with Rainbow’s help.

Now that I think about it who IS going to teach pound cake how to fly when his bigger wings grow out? Neither of his parents can really do any demonstrations.
