Nope, the reason was that she was an alicorn. That’s all. They simply don’t want another alicorn hogging spotlight. The second reason was that there are people that assume they are indeed born (besides the ascended ones) and this was reinforced by The Journal of The Two Sisters, but then that silly Josh Haber with his “winging it” policy and not bothering a bit to maintain some consistency produced that confusing little dialogue between Celestia and Luna that makes people lose their minds.

Flurry was unprecedented. That means Twi and Tia’s kid would probably be a normal pony.
I think the argument goes that neither Twilight nor Celestia were born alicorns (IIRC they were both unicorns), so when they breed, they should produce a unicorn. This is part of the reason why Flurry Heart being born an alicorn got people mad.
Also, if they found out how to make lesbian babies, I’m sure they could produce any race they please.
