KevinThorax. He’s a changeling.”Fish, in large enough quantities, could’ve sustained the Hydra and considering the water is pretty murky, we wouldn’t be able to see the fish ourselves. Or, y’know, it was only waiting for prey there and also has other places where it hunts for prey.
Much like different varieties of other insects, it may be a different sub-species of Changeling native to the Crystal Mountains.
The only animals shown (other than four ponies and a baby dragon) are frogs. And I’m pretty sure anything big enough to make a decent meal for a hydra would probably be big enough to be visible.
How would you explain this Changeling looking different from the others? Mutant? Bear in mind that the behind-the-scenes reason is probably to distinguish him from the others (and that presumably the episode is already finished), which would make “he shouldn’t look different, make him look the same” not a really useful answer.
Even if they had the power to change the color, it wouldn’t explain the holes and ears not matching up.
During Chrysalis’ reprise of “This Day Aria”, we see a Changeling in the background clearly smiling and blinking.
There’s definately other animals in the bog that the Hydra could’ve eaten, just because there are predators there doesn’t mean animals they consider prey don’t go there.
…Yeesh.
I just thought it seemed like a natural thematic extension of the power set and sounded better than “body paint and colored contacts.”
Maybe anatomical factors, such as their chitinous exoskeletons, prevent facial expressions in changeling drones, and they express emotions via color change? There are animals that do this in real life.
But if we’re gonna go into ecology, you’re gonna have to tell me how that giant hydra in Froggy Bottom Bog hasn’t starved to death. :P
…You’re gonna throw something at me, aren’t you?
Ears are completely different shapes.
I hope that is indeed Kevin, and that these are just some of the many, many details that can’t sync up while everyone struggles to move forward with production.
A Changeling’s “shapeshifting” is more of a disguise. And regardless of that fact, why would a Changeling ONLY change his/her colors if they’re still gonna look like a Changeling? Either this Changeling is of another hive, OR it’s trying to PRETEND to be from another hive.
If it IS “Kevin”, then you’d better explain why he is still the same colors as Chrysalis’ Changelings.
I don’t see why Changelings wouldn’t be able to change color.
Or a followup episode when he’s introduced to Chrysalis as such.
lol. X)
Meanwhile, in an alternate universe:
“This is my new friend, Spike. He’s a dragon.”
In both pics, the wings are extended. Even if it’s the lighting, why would the back shell and eyes be lighter yet the carapace itself be slightly darker? Also, some of the holes don’t match up either.
What if that’s just a trick of lighting and transparent wing coverage?
I believe it’s another fan-given name.
I also believe that when fans christened the changeling with that name, they mistook said changeling’s gender.
@TheOtherPinkiePie
Maybe Changelings can change color if they want?
@FilthyRichFan25

your current filter.BTW is the changeling’s name really “kevin”?
Well, if Spike didn’t say he I would be totally on board that idea.
I doubt that Chrysalis doesn’t seem like the type to turn on her own from the way she talked about them.
Knowing Hasbro’s obsession with princesses, I could see this being one of Chrysalis’s daughters. Maybe she got kicked out of the hive for being a threat to Mother?
It could just be a female chrysalis has a similar color whereas the others are blue maybe green is for the females and blue is for the males.
