Lyra’s killed people and we still love her.
Night Glider: “Staaarliiiight, why is there a dead pony in our village?!?”
Starlight Glimmer: “Gee, I don’t know how that got there.”
NG: “Why did you kill him, Starlight?”
SG: “I didn’t kill him. Why, that’s…that’s like, my least favorite thing to do.”
NG: “Tell me what happened, Starlight.”
SG: “Well, I was sitting in my village.”
NG: “Mm-hmm.”
SG: “I was reading a book that consisted of nothing but = signs.”
NG: “Go on.”
SG: “When this pony walks in.”
NG: “Mm-hmm.”
SG: “So I went up to him.”
NG: “Yeah?”
SG: “And I blasted him with my horn magic. Thirty-seven times. In the chest!”
NG: “STAAAARLIIIGHT!!! THAT KILLS PONIES!!!”
SG: “Oh. I… I did not know that!”
Fact remains. I doubt she would’ve been redeemed like that if she killed ponies.
What’s super annoying is people who say she’s a killer, and get upset that she’s been reformed… Because of something she never even did.
…And that’s if I were to concede to that.
But I don’t. Even if they could have her kill ponies, I don’t think they would, because that’s not the character they wanted to make. She’s basically a Jim Jones but not as evil. I don’t think they ever executed people in Jonestown, even, until it went downhill. I could be wrong, but point is, it’s not too far from reality to have someone like her who didn’t actually kill anypony. So it’s downright wrong to compare her to people like Kim Song.
She’s a gentler, nicer Jim Jones. Or rather, was.
Only because it’s for kids.
Just Jonestown, minus the suicide level of devotion.
North Korea kills people. Glimglam didn’t.
@nobody here
She was shocked at what happened. Her not knowing that Twilight and her friends were pivotal to Equestria’s survival is an oversight by the writers.
Source: “Oh, spare me your overblown ego! You and your friends aren’t that important to Equestria - nopony is!”
Or roughly something like that.
I’d say more Jonestown or North Korea than Auschwitz. There wasn’t actually an assembly line of mass murder.
I dunno, that place she was running had some massive Auschwitz feels.
I like Glimmy… But, no, she was not like a kid incapable of realizing the impact of what she did. She was an adult that simply didn’t care. She was capable of finding a rare or unique piece of magic that would do what she needed. She was capable of stalking Twilight, yet somehow she’s completely unable to take the recent history of Twilight and her friends into account?
No, she simply didn’t care until Twilight forced her to look at what she did.
At least give it a chance. You don’t know it’ll be like that. The season opener didn’t role Twilight OoC, and the one part it did about Sunburst’s reformation was still fresh: We haven’t had any reformed villains have to meet old friends they’d met before they turned villain in the first place and have to admit a shameful history to an old friend :q
Are they evil, selfish people who only want power, or misguided people who only want what’s good?
Or, more realistically, somewhere in-between? People who have a strong need to feel in control, and have found a system of beliefs with which they can justify their actions to themselves?
Or maybe they’re just psycopaths?
At the end of the day, does it really even matter, though? Do you have to morally judge someone, to know that you must kill them to stop them from killing countless others?
As for Glimglam, though, she never killed anypony, so she’s considerably better :q
And her changing the timeline is something like a small child getting in a schoolyard fight and obtaining WMD’s in response. That kid has no freaking idea what she’s meddling with… She just wanted a little petty revenge - never foresaw the tremendous untold suffering she’d inflict, and never meant to inflict in the first place.
And finally - there are countless alternate realities. But they mean nothing because they’re not our / the “real” reality.
So technically, those realities never actually happened.
And finally, all she did was stop RD from getting 5 other ponies their (current) marks. Blaming her for the destruction other villains were able to cause because of that - Tirek, Nightmare Moon, Sombra, who-have-you, makes about as much sense as holding whoever rejected Hitler’s art school application responsible for WWII.
I’m sure real life dictators and fascists often think the same thing.
kthxbye.
She’ll always be best pony to me.
