Another day, another dollar.

“Or rather, ‘bit’,” you mused as you patted the rather generous pocketful of money you had made helping on the farm. You liked the Apple family; they had been quite welcoming of you and had treated you as one of their own because, as Applejack had put it, she ‘wasn’t going to make the Zecora mistake twice’. Whatever that meant. Although your ability to pick apples left a lot to be desired, you were able to examine and sort a bushel faster than all three of them combined, and Big Macintosh had paid you a much more generous amount than what had been promised. It was a good day.

Beeeeeeep

The hour alarm on your watch barely registered. You were vaguely aware it meant it was either four or five in the afternoon as you finished off the last helping of apple cider. Yet another perk of working on the farm. Between the free cider, generous payment, and of course great company, you could see yourself working there any time they asked.

Beep beep beep

You stopped and looked at your watch, and the blank green LCD screen reminded you it wasn’t a normal watch. “Is it time for something?” you asked.

YE:S appeared as well as the 7 segment digits could spell.

You had no clue where this ‘watch’ came from. At some point a few days ago you had ended up wearing it. “Well, what time it is?” you asked, thinking back to the day it had appeared on you. You were so used to wearing a watch you hadn’t even realized it was on you until much later, but you were fairly certain someone had strapped it to your wrist when you dozed off on that park bench.

HU:GS appeared and began to blink.

Or rather, she had strapped herself to you. “Oh, I don’t know,” you said jokingly, “I think you’re too small to hug.”

Her little monochrome eyes looked up at you and she had a big smile on her face. Her tail and hind legs, which served as her strap, loosened and she stood up on your wrist. You scooped her up and nestled her against your chest just beneath your chin. You couldn’t ‘hug’ her in the traditional sense as she was far too small, but she enjoyed the attention: Her little screen lit up bright blue as she nuzzled her cheek into your chest.

Admittedly you had only kept her around at first because you really missed wearing a watch, and although wearing a living creature as one was quite odd it wasn’t even half as strange as some of the things you had seen in Equestria. However you had taken a real shine to her in almost no time at all. She was such loyal company; always there and happy to be along for the ride. She just wanted to be your friend and your watch.

And you were glad to have her as both.
