Well, I’m not entirely sure how I’m going to act when my daughter (or son, but daughter would probably be more appropriate for the stage) has a boyfriend I find to be completely shitty as a person, but I do know that I believe I’m going to treat my children like Sun Tzu treated his soldiers.

I want to treat them with love, and teach them with rationality and unhindered knowledge. I will not tell them that sex is definitely not a thing or tell them when they’re older because I believe it should be common knowledge to someone to know about humans before they know about the world that is so inhabited by them. Otherwise, I know that there is no way they would act with a rational mind at any point in a developmental age.
 
Perhaps I’m wrong though. Perhaps if I treat them with love before hatred I will make them fear me. Only time will tell. As for now though, I don’t want to be a father that seems unapproachable, intimidating, or overly dominating. I want to be the father that says, “I love you in a way nobody in the world can really say they do. It’s the reason I love you that I want to raise you in a way I feel is free and orderly. I will love you like a father, but treat you like a human.”

Parents have find middle ground between being a teacher and a friend. One cannot put more emphasis on one over the other, otherwise, one’d have a kid who resents one for walking all over them, or a kid who walks all over one instead.
 
Other situations abound. For instance, my parents are absent-minded and I’ve gotten away with doing shit with little or no consequences. XD

Xd In all seriousness though, what’s the deal with over-protective fathers? I want to be a father in the future myself, but I never understood why a father would want to be over-protective. To me, it’s like you’re implying that the children you’re addressing are incapable of making educated choices with their life and that’s screwed up. I don’t see any healthy, friendly relationship being formed from that.
