Better characterization and motivation than her movie self…

So, you’d like to see a story about a hot-tempered, extremely skilled, red-haired wizard-adventurer who threw away a high position in the aristocracy for a small chance at world domination, then traveled into another world, stole an ancient magical artifact, and transformed into a terrifying demon? Preferably someone formidable to look at, associated with horses, wielding magic of fire, darkness, and mind control, and with heraldic colors of red, gold, and black?
…
Let’s just say that it took a long time in the afterlife for Sunset Shimmer to earn this reincarnation. The Pony of Second Chances is living the biggest second chance in the world.
Yeah, it’s most likely a coincidence
coincidence?
I hate Reformed Discord, he would have been so much better as a recurring villain like Bill from Gravity Falls.
It’s true, reformed villains are boring. Except for Discord because he’s still a duck.
IDW Annual 2013 Equestria Girls comic, The Fall of Sunset Shimmer
How is he gone for good?
gasp! Practicing her looks for when she’ll rule Equestria? that’s Disney Evil!
But at least she had 3 years of being prom princess to affirm her self esteem.
HAHA! Take THAT Celestia! Now her plans are truly coming to fruition! She may be powerless now, but you’ll send someone out to look out for her! Except, Celestia didn’t do that. Sunset came out herself and stole something, rather, Celestia didn’t seem to care for this pupil and her general stupidity until that happened.
and after that, ensue the events of everyone’s favorite, the first EQG movie.

the friend reveal reminded me too much of ‘fist of the north star’. one character’s MO/actions is waaaay too similar to starlight’s to be just a coincidence (starlight wanted a markless society, souther wanted a society devoid of love. both in their own experiences caused them great pain).
@Background Pony #C01F
That wasn’t even a Freudian excuse. Just a crappy plot device that doesn’t really mesh well with her character.
@RaineV1
Yes exactly!!! You don’t need a Freudian excuse or anything to be redeemable. If that was the case then Starlights redemption would be the epitome of perfection. I never got why people thought that Freudian excuses are needed to redeem a character.
I wasn’t a fan of that either. I think she would have been better as a well intentioned extremist who didn’t realize how badly she was screwing up until she saw the wasteland future.
yeah, starlight trying to have a freudian excuse of “My friend moved away and that made me sad!” kind of ruined her COMPLETELY. Like WTF.
@RIG
Any particular reason you think he’s gone for good?
>besides the comic only made her worse, it made her look like a power hungry bitch without a single Freudian excuse.
As for this, Freudian excuses are way overdone nowadays. You can’t have a power lusting villain without throwing in a one line excuse about their puppy getting kicked. It’s nice having a villain that isn’t bitching about how her mommy wouldn’t give her dessert or whatever other sob-story people want to use.
{years later}
“Twilight, you have so much potential!”
With some thought, that may not be true.
I don’t think we’ll ever see him again in the show
Does the crappy relationship exists there as well? and he vanished for good in season 5 anyway.
Damnit, when are they going to develop twilight and pony flash’s relationship more?
ha ha!
