Because who knows how many innocent lives were lost because Future Twilight couldn’t kill Future Starlight until (years?) later? If Future Twilight kills this Starlight now. She saves countless lives and ensures this Twilight doesn’t have to become what she became.

This was something I expected more realistically as a fate for Starlight’s actions. She maliciously tampered with time several times, putting everyone’s lives at risk with no regard all for the sake of revenge.
 
I always thought (headcanon) she would tamper one too many times and trap herself in a desolate timeline without any way to return(either from abusing the spell causing a backfire or losing the scroll), doomed to roam by herself forever.  
OR  
Her actions would anger the spirit of time who as a consequence, would freeze her in time indefinitely.

For what it’s worth, that’s all this conversation is: Interpretations made to challenge one another based upon opposing perspectives created as a result of a subject which was brought up from a comic with a non-canon alternate ending to an episode of a show set in a fictional world of cartoon ponies solving problems that range in severity, with friendship.

Montage sequences always denote a passage of time, and there is a clear passage of time in the final song. The song starts with her surrounded by the Mane Six in the cutie map room, but then she’s suddenly only with Twilight in another part of the castle. The rest of the Mane Six are waiting outside and begin to march with the song, and then it cuts to the montage.
 
Now, what the montage implies is that it is a flashback to Starlight actually spending time with each of the Mane Six. By the time the marching started, everything that happened in the montage already happened, which means she has already made friends with each of the Mane Six and gone back to her old village in order to make amends with the ponies she took cutie marks from.
 
The song’s timeline starts at the beginning, skips to near the end with the marching and jump, skips back to Starlight spending time with the Mane Six and making amends with her old village, and then skips to the final part of marching through Ponyville. The entire sequence implies a passage of a number of days at minimum, at least one for each of the Mane Six and one for returning to her village at which she would most likely spend another day before returning to the castle and marching to Ponyville.
 
Beginning of song -> Rarity and Spike modelling time -> Fluttershy animal time -> Rainbow Dash flying time -> Applejack apple time -> Pinkie Pie baking time -> Twilight and Spike reading time -> returning to village -> returning to castle -> marching to Ponyville.
