Well in many ways you could say that different believes and doctrines clashed in most of these wars. And somehow you could find at least one who would try to make it about religion to make excuses for their actions. Like in the Amercina Civial War, many said it was their god given right to own slaves and backed it up with the bible. And the Americans actually started printing in god we trust on their money, to difference them self from the mostly atheistic communists.  
But in deed, these wars weren’t started because of religion, nor where their fought as a reason. Even if believes are big part on the battle field. Still there are a lot of wars that were thought because of religion. 30 year war, 100 year war, the crusades, german peasant’s war.  
So I would say the phrases wars are caused because of religion is false. It is more over doctrines.

Could you really say wars like the American Revolution, American Civil War, World Wars I and II, the Korean War/Conflict, the Vietnam War, the Persian Gulf War, the War of the Roses, the English Civil War, the Seven Years War, the Hundred Years War, the Napoleonic Wars, the Punic Wars, Alexander’s conquests and wars, Genghis Khan’s conquests and wars, the Warring States period in Japan, and many others I can’t name off the top of my head were caused primarily by religion? Or even remotely? I wouldn’t.

An observation: Ignoring that christianity can’t be possible in this fictional world, and seeing both Apples and Pies as christians in a real world, Granny Smith seemed to ignore Igneous’s first saying, and someone correct me but in the King James Version of the Bible you find such language as well. How could Granny ignore the language of Igneous?

I don’t know what you consider protestant in the US. But it definitely isn’t the same as in Europe. But there are so many Converts, it hardy matters. But protestants are far more diverse than that. I think the Pie family is more Amish than anything else.  
And I actually don’t know why the Apples would be catholic.

Similar to the Sunni Shia in the muslim community. I’m a sunni and I bear no ill will towards my shia bros. But there are so many things we do very differently.
