Given how some of the Crystal Ponies reacted, are you sure they wouldn’t prefer death to being under Sombra’s hoof again?
yeah they were pretty down to the wire, but it was still a huge risk.
nobody ever thinks about when the good guys risk everyone’s safety.
In all fairness, Cadance had at least some information about what to expect, and the Heart legitimately needed to be used.
also how cadance did with the crystal heart.
she was like sheeeeit idk go power that thing up! woah, I’m all crystally. score!
then they all died of pony cancer
I’m pretty sure she knows better now. :P
Besides, she’s not the first to make that kind of mistake, and she won’t be the last. Trixie did it before her, Sci-Twi did it after her, and Spike’s less-than-wise choices of reading material in S4 may also count. This makes me think that Magic Kindergarten doesn’t teach the “don’t be a Prometheus” lesson.

what, steal from a ruling class of gods among ponies, an immensely powerful artifact that you know nothing about, and just put it on your head?
yeah someone needs to go back to magic kindergarten.
Compromise. You get worst judgment, I get biggest risk. Fair?
and if she hadn’t skipped out on her princess lessons to go play human, she might have been a bit more well informed.
the difference is here she had the connections and resources to know what she was doing was a terrible idea. with the crown, she was totally in the dark about it.
Putting on the crown was probably a bigger mistake than turning against Celestia. Okay, it worked out, but that was after she spent at least a couple months with everybody hating her (and her friends were not always an exception to this). Plus, not only was she lucky to get pulled out of that smoking crater as a better person, but with the unpredictability of magic in the human world, she’s probably lucky there was anything left of her to pull out, rather than her either getting incinerated or winding up braindead.

no, I’m trying to make celestia say the goddamned unvarnished truth
sunset fucked up when she turned against celestia
hey that actually turned out pretty well for her
full redemption in like 10 seconds
bunch of good friends outta nowhere
plus she only decided that after she put on the crown and got hit with the stupid stick
