See the problem with that is we also were not okay with the technology in Friendship is Magic either. When FiM did it, it was always pointed out by people as being distinctly out of place and ruining the setting of the world. I don’t know why you would try to point out that FiM did it as though any of us were okay with it when FiM did it. It was a mistake then, and they’ve only amplified it to an even bigger mistake now.

Also in FiM’s favor is the fact they used technology very very sparringly—at least until maybe later in the show’s runtime when they played loose with it. Now, G5 may turn out to be the same way but the fact that they are showing explicitly modern technology THIS EARLY in promotional material does not indicate this at all. Technology does, legitimately, undermine the magic and wonder of this fantastical world that lied at the heart of its appeal in the first place. Of what import is a Pegasus, if there are automobiles? What spectacle is there to be had in magical 2-way mirrors if they have access to video streaming? Not to mention it makes many obstacles our main characters would normally face a non-issue.

What really makes this whole thing abhorrent is that this is a SMARTPHONE. Do you have ANY IDEA how many things about FiM’s world this trivializes on a fundamental level just from this one device alone?
