Yeah it can get pretty crappy when that happens. But the drive to draw can overcome it. You end up drawing because you want to and not because you want approval.

That’s pretty much how i feel a lot of the times which is why i slowed down a lot with my drawings. I know i have the support of my friends as well as the people who regularly like and comment on my pictures but i can’t shake that feeling regardless, especially now that i see less and less feedback on what i do

I believe i belong on Tumblr.. I dunno saying I’m going to not draw pony porn is like snoopdog trying to pass a drug test.

Since i draw fetish porn i cannot accurately gauge the perceptions of my actual fans because the downvotes no longer correlate to anything resembling quality control.
 
If the community don’t work I’m going to go draw bojack horseman porn.

I think some people get Pony Artist Burnout because they put a lot of work in to their art, then when they upload it gets out shadowed and don’t much attention and they feel like they wasted their time or maybe they feel like people don’t care for their art and that person feels like they wasted their time

Maybe it’s because I’ve got adhd and experience hyper fixation, but I can’t ever imagine straight up abandoning something I poured so much time and effort and love into…I’ll probably still be drawing ponies in 10 years lol.

But I do understand art takes a backseat in people’s lives, so please do whichever makes you happy.

It’s funny that you say that m8. I remember I implemented Trixie as a plot point in to my ask blog back in October of 2016. I was for certain that it would help movie my already dead blog forward, and spring my blog in to something great…..three months after doing it, I deleted 2 years worth of posts and art work, and rebooted my blog.

Lol I’m working on a commission right now but personal pony art for me has hit a bit of a wall. I’ve actually started drawing damn smurfs art simply because it is something different.

I haven’t done anything in months, and even then it felt like a chore. Recently decided to try doing some artsy things differently and in different style, and while I’m still working out how to get things to “work”, it’s revived my interest significantly.

This… sounds like me as of right now.
 
When I first came into the fandom, I used to draw lots ponies(both canon and ocs - mostly ocs) and took requests every so often.  
Now, I’m losing interest in the show and my art in general. This seems very close to what I’m currently feeling right now.

Grandpalove is the least tragic since he stopped updating Ask Trixie and Cheese when MLP wasn’t interesting him anymore. Still sad for me though.

I miss a lot of the old Trixie/Twixie ask blogs. Because they were good, and a lot of the artists behind them had really tragic things happen (From the guy who made Twixie Genies deleting everything on his tumblr and DA, to more tragic ones like the mod of Stoner Trixie dying.)

As awful as that one blueblood blog could be. It was entertaining. I miss it. one of my fav blogs was about the diamond dogs. It died a long while back.

I kind of think a lot of people started ask blogs on a whim and then got tired of them really quick. I know I’d definitely not be able to stay focused on any one topic like that long enough to make a long-lasting blog out of it; my interests jump around like crazy :P

It doesn’t help that most of the blogs I’ve loved have been cancelled or finished. It feels like ask pony blogs are an endangered species.

I rotate between pony art and Parappa art. I’m probably going to add some Sanic into the mix soon.

I say try doing something else for awhile! There are a lot of nifty cartoons out there. Drawing a wide variety of things is good for creativity anyway!
 
The problem with not drawing is that your skills will decay without regular use. I think it’s important to keep drawing no matter what. Find a couple of subjects that you think might be fun, and doodle those.

I kinda have been for the last 2 months. Still burned out.

Burn out for artists is real because lack of variety causes stagnation.
