Season 8 Episode Discussion [Spoilers, possible leaks, rumours etc.]

Alright, one at a time.
 
A Matter of Principals
 
Man, I am trying to like you, Starlight and episodes, but you’re making it so hard for me to do so.
 
“You’re a good leader and an expert in friendship.” Twilight, given your choices, I understand why Starlight is the best option, but that reasoning is…No.
 
I feel like this episode is super exemplary of why the school is a bad idea. If there’s only 6 teachers to teach an entire massive university, there’s going to be a problem. Like I get why the Mane 6 are the most qualified, but it’s just them. That is an insane amount of work considering they all have other jobs to do.
 
And piling all that on Starlight and Spike alone is…No.
 
Also Discord’s a tsundere dick. A tsundick if you will. Nothing unusual there.
 
Eh, not much left for me to say for this one. But Tsundiscord should really be a tag by now.
 
The Hearth’s Warming Club
 
Well this was was surprising in a lot of ways.
 
I mean first of all, they’re doing their holiday episode in friggin August.
 
Second, they do some worldbuilding and lore, which is usually a plus. Plus the traditions fit the species. The yaks are destructive but a proud race, the dragons assert their dominance constantly, the changelings are copycats, the seaponies/hippogryphs created new traditions because they’re escaping recent oppression, the griffons are still assholes, and Sandbar’s a total dork. Though I am questioning if Gilda and Gabby are related now…
 
The mystery makes sense, especially when you listen to the stories they tell, and try to think of what the next species is gonna have. Gallus leaves to be interrogated first, and gets to listen to all the other traditions, save for the changelings. You’re waiting to see what Gallus’s story about griffon traditions are like, but then you remember that it’s still kidna every griffon for themselves. Even the dragons have some form of closeness, even if it is mostly driven by prize greed.
 
And yeah, the ending is pretty cheesy, but it’s a pony holiday episode, what else do you expect?
 
It’s a pretty wholesome episode.

Lol. Can anyone tell me why everyone gasped when Twilight said our first pair is Silver Stream and Gallus?

I mean I get it’s implied by the fact we know the final’s plot but is there any deliberate coding on the episodes part to actually suggest that to the viewer of this episode?

Well he suppose to be the Trump strawman, obviously they would rather redeem Tirek for being a non pony than ever give him a chance to have any motives. For the shows staff who talk a lot about friendship, they sure write a lot of hate on twitter toward the president.
 

Am i missing something? This has nothing to do with the morale of the episode with Flim Flam and Starswirl. Was the message this messed up that we switched to the message for the finale? Because i also don’t get what Flim Flam did wrong. The only time they were scamming people was with the fake cure.
 
And yeah, i don’t know why are they still giving them songs. None of them worked after their initial first song and this one is also not memorable.
 
But i agree with the good points. Rarity and Starswirl so far were spared the OOC syndrome that infect the rest of mane6 and Discord. And yeah, Starswirl is pretty much brainwashed into a new character after his premiere (like Glimmer) but considering that Haber wanted him to be a grumpy unlikable douche, i would rather have him be written as an ally to Twilight and as just a kind old man. Still, i wish they would rather explore his relationship with Scorpan and Celestia, instead treating him a Tempest or Cheese Sandwich and send him around Equestria to not appear in the episodes. Starlight would have been perfect for this treatment as she is pointless after S5 and add nothing to the table that woudn’t be added by Discord, Trixie or Moon Dancer.
 
In the end the overall message of the episode is that Twilight want to have a monopoly on Friendship and will go out of her way to eliminate her competition.
 
In summary, the episode is 6/10. Not bad but also nothing worth rewatching just like the premiere. And you don’t feel like you even met Starswirl from the legend since he doesn’t do anything.

I saw this one. Funny and adorable episode. Just like always. 9,5/10. Wait just for ,,The end in friend”! This is going to be a blast!

No one complained that I wasn’t being “friendly” with him. Making you go away would be all legal. I could do it and no one could stop me. You two are scammers and cheaters. It’d be a pleasure to put you behind the bars for the rest of your miserable lives. Oh, why waste expensive jail cells with you? Okay, it’s unlikely Twilight would say that, but damn it felt good to write it.
 
Friendship U mostly suffers from the same old annoying trope: The Hero, who has saved the world multiple times from certain doom, is highly respected (at least she should be) and is known to often say things that turn out to be true (even if she freaks out sometimes), says she’s certain something is wrong (and with some work could dig up some hard evidence of F&F’s past scams), but no one listens to her or believes her. Instead they just berate her, extort her, and accuse her of “jealousy”. She has to fix everything by herself and then everyone forgets her again until the next time when it all repeats. It’s an annoying episode and a massive drop in quality from The Hearth’s Warming Club.
 
I’ve never liked Flim and Flam episodes much and this episode is no exception. I am so utterly done with them. Hopefully this is the last time we see the duo. If it’s not already clear from this or my older posts, I really really don’t like scammers.
 
And goddammit Starswirl you continue to be an idiot.

That’s my headcanon about griffons now.

You know what just occurred to me? Twilight becoming Headmare of her school feels like what her becoming a princess should have been: a responsibility that tests her character.

About ,,Hearths Warming Club” I’ll tell ya something. I was expecting near the end Dash will enter the room again and said ,,Next!” while Gallus finishes his story.

Its almost as her becoming a princess wasn’t planned by any of the writers but only by Hasbro toy department.
 
Her being a legit princess like Celestia would create a huge gap between her and Mane5 not to mention her responsibilities would eliminate her as a character. Becoming a princess just by a title was the best resolution the writers could come up with in order to save the integrity of mane6 as a group.
 
The original path of Twilight in the story should have been:
 
Librarian->Principal/teacher->becoming Alicorn in the last ever episode to celebrate the ending of her chapter as the main character of the show. It should be there along with other mane6 solving their own agendas.
