DB WORKSHOP: Tag discussion

I’ll just start this thread, then.
 
First topic: what to call this filly?  

 
Now I was under the impression that “ginger snap” was more or less well accepted, but “filly scout”, “thin mint” and “tag-a-long” all seem to be used in the tags as well. Having four tags for the same character, even if the fans have not settled on a single one, is unneccessary. Just like with “truffle shuffle” (AKA Chubby Cheeks/Nathan/Teacher’s Pet) we should pick one name and use that for taqgging purposes. Alt names can be either aliased or put in earlier uploads or the tag description.

Something I’ve been doing recently is adding trixie’s cloak/trixie’s hat to images where someone else is wearing Trixie’s costume. I didn’t create the tags, I only continued them. It might be redundant to use two tags? anyway that’s how it is at the moment.

“filly scout” is a generic term for the outfit, not for that specific filly.

Yeah maybe Ginger Snap could imply the “filly scout” tag? (I don’t think we’ll ever see non-scout appearances from her)

filly derpy vs dizzy doo - which one do you prefer?
 
SOmeone just started the first one (probably didn’t know the old one) but I must admit it’s easier to remember.
 
“dizzy doo” would likely still remain as a tag on images where people use lil’ Derpy as a separate character.

“derpy” + “filly” (and/or “younger”). Problem solved.

forced contains some things that are actually rape. I’m not really sure it would warrant an alias, but obviously something has to be done about it. Currently I’m looking at a couple of options:

forced seems to be a really small pool, is it even warranted attention?
 
If there is a constant problem with people adding forced when they mean rape, THAT would be an issue worthy of discussion.
 
Otherwise, I’d just tag rape where it is needed, and leave forced floating in the system, or even remove it from the pics where it doesn’t make sense. (For example, because rape is already added.)

The way I ee it, there are tags with a clearly defined single purpose, and there are a few that are practically just ‘half-words’: they do help a person find an image faster, yes, but they do not have a single settled meaning or use. “forced” seems one of those tags; a lot of things can be “forced”, so I think aliasing it to just forced sex would not be for the best.)
 
PS: By the time I typed this it seems you already went with the bst solution (removing it from pics that were also “rape”), so I guess that’s settled?

Huh. No I didn’t touch anything, but if people already solved it, well, that’s nice. Eh, I’ll leave it as it is then.

I’ve been looking for images of a certain theme and there isn’t a tag for it.  
I’ve found a few that would fit into the tag I was thinking of adding but I didn’t cuz I was worried I’d get in trouble for it or something.
 
I propose that tag “Alter Ego” for images having the theme of a pony secretly being another pony and/or living a double life.
 
Examples of tag I’ve seen around the image board are Rainbow Dash secretly being Photo Finish, Trixie actually being Luna in disguise, and Octavia being Vinyl Scratch.
 
I’d like to start adding this tag but I felt I should check in somewhere first to see if it was actually okay.

There are two Michael Morones tags: michael morones and micheal morones. What is the correct spelling of his name? Last time I checked, they had around the same number of images in each tag, we need to boot one and merge.

Since we have momlestia, should we come up with a tag name for Twi-mom pics like >>542978 (deleted) as well?

I think people have been using the disguise tag for those type of images. A separate tag would be fine, though I’m not sure if alter ego is the best name (misuse seems likely). double life or something like that seems better.  
(You’ll want to exclude canonical alter egos like NMM and character variants like power ponies, I think.)

I have no ideas for a Twilight mom tag. But are there really enough images of her acting like a mom to warrant a tag?

We have a mama Twilight tag.

How do people feel about the potty and toilet tags? They seem to be used interchangeably here, but they usually refer to quite distinct objects. This is a potty, while this is a toilet. Also the potty tag gets used for all sorts of random stuff including desperation/omorashi and watersports.
 
I propose updating the potty and toilet tags to refer only to those specific objects. Any objections, or should I just go ahead and do it?

That’s how I add them. Obviously it is a good sign if it gets picked up and other people start using it too, and tag as many relevant images as you can think of is great, but just a tag to connect similar images even if it is not on every related pic is a help to people too, I’m sure.

Thanks for that find, I went and added the pictures I had in mind to it.

Also, the no favorite from roboshi tag is fairly redundant, given that we can already search for “! faved_by:roboshi” to get more accurate results.

“It’s just for fun” is getting out of hand though. Take >>232093 for example; currently 5 (7 if you include ‘wall of faves’ and the pointless ‘upvotes galore’ (PROTIP: search for score.gt:<something>) tags) are tags absolutely nobody is ever going to search for. But let’s go deeper. Now look at the tag changes for said pic.  
I’m also fairly sure I’ve seen pics where over half of the tags accounted for useless tags like that. The only reason I haven’t removed all of them is because people are going to add them back anyway.
 
Note: I’m not saying 1-off (or very few pics) tags are bad, but only if they’re at least somewhat relevant. A 1-off tag like “hurr I added this tag so that I can hide it”, lol no. But something like princess soarin while technically covered by the alicorn+race swap, is something that does have to do with the actual pic, especially given the source URL. It’s also similar to how there are more pictures when you search for sweetiecorn then there are sb,alicorn,race swap.
 
But yeah back to the point, I think there should be a limit on how “meta” a fun tag can be.

Just want to be sure I tag them right…

What’s the point of the semi-anthro tag? It seems to be mostly just bipedal+clothes, things that are actually just anthro, and people abusing it to filter particular bipedal pony pics they don’t like.  
Am I missing something here?

Bipedal is ponies doing things on two legs naturally, semi-anthro is ponies with hooves, no chesticles, but definitely more human-like anatomny, mainly shoulders and hips.

so 2 would be “semi-anthro”?
 
It does seem to be a strange tag, like, we don’t call 4 “semi-humanized”. The pics that are under it right now, I’d remove half of them as they are just normal pony+bipedal, and put the rest under anthro. We don’t really care which part of the pony is anthropomorphized (like above, we don’t differentiate between 4 (a human face) and 3 (a horse face). If it’s between human and pony, it’s anthro.  
…is what I’d say.
 
(I’d classify Smiling’s images above as normal poni. Cartoon character ponies are themselves plenty humanized, this is just a different style.)
