Then again, Josh Haber was invovled with the script and his track record has been “if it didn’t happen in season 7, I don’t care”.

As it turned out, the kirin live somewhere else entirely.

I had to listen to a 2+ hour stream during development of the game and the discussion of Tianhuo and just happened to hear that specific part. Due to Lauren being off the DHX team she was able to mention the details of things she wanted to do.
 
Sorry to say that re-finding that specific moment would be quite the task…

Kirin? Well, many depictions slide the scale on dragon and equine features. Heck, one documentation of a Qilin in the Ming-era had depictions of what we know now as the Giraffe.
 
That said, the Kirin/Qilin/Longma was intended to be in MLP. During a Them’s Fightin’ Herds stream, Lauren said that Discord was supposed to be a Dragon Pony hybrid but they couldn’t find anything in Greek mythos that fit the bill, so he’s just a bundle of things. WHen they made Tianhuo for TFH, she mentioned that, had she known what a Longma was, Discord would have been one of them.
 
Here are some depictions of the Kirin, often said to be powerful in magic and will smite evil on sight and never so much as bend a blade of grass.
 

 

 
These are some of the more firm blend of dragon and cloven hoofed animals.
 
As time went on, they became more elaborate and slid back and forth on the scale of dragon vs equine.  

 
And of course, became part of our modern culture as well.

oh right… When i saw Kirin, i was thinking Monster hunter, forgot that Kirin, although looks like a unicorn was classified as an elder dragon.

Yeah, much like “alicorn,” this fandom has adopted words that mean other things in a weird way. So who knows what this really is. Just thought the joke was there so I took it.

Qilin/kirin generally are depicted with Chinese dragon-like features, but I don’t think they’re supposed to be hybrids.
