Im not gonna claim that this is MLPs glorious, inevitable shout-out to Niggertron. The design could be a reference to a number of things. They obviously made it red and black cuz those are the bad guy colors. Might even be a subtle nod to the fandoms infinite, shitty red and black alicorn OCs, but thats prolly a stretch.
Still, I want to believe that somewhere out there, someone on the design team loves him some Niggertron. If you out there nigga, I have a message for you:

But really though Hearth’s Warming Eve is more like Thanksgiving and/or Independence Day. It’s a commemoration of travelers leaving their inhospitable home and founding a new nation despite racial and political tensions. It doesn’t even have Celestia in it.
