The first of many in my “Adventuring is Magic” series!
This was a fun bit of world building, and I really enjoyed this kind of character design. Look forward to being able to do the rest.
Note: I’m not using any established pen `n paper rule set for the stats. I wanted to keep it fairly general. And while it resembles DnD, keep in mind that it is not actually DnD.
Thank you~
Rarity does look lovely in this outfit. I like the ‘fanservice’ as much as I do the art like this where they have complex costumes on with a multitude of detail. Thanks for sharing it.
Her magic can repair damaged items to an extent, this makes it a good source for healing magic, since it means she can close a wound but it will still need time to fully heal.
Rarity as a healer? That seems odd to me.
She is also portrayed as an enchanter.
Why not have BOTH ?! :D
I appreciate the effort in making both, though i gravitate towards Badassery over Sexy,
@Wolfy
Problem there is, when ever Rarity get’s physical she’s actually pretty direct and brutal, she doesn’t show any elegance just hit the thing, so it kinda makes the Daggers more likely her style,
I would Love if it we could have both styles of armor in fiction without people complaining about either.
No problem :) Your anthro style is easily one of my faves in the fandom.
Thanks. I’m glad to hear it :D
as much as i like the one with the skin showing, i’d be lying if i didn’t say the shiny, form fitting attire here didn’t ALSO catch my attention, if not more. Especially since you gave Rarity a bit more of an athletic look (I’m a sucker for when the characters aside from dashie and applejack are made to look strong/fit). The way the outfit hugs the shape of her body is very appealing.
Alas, the internet will be the internet, and despite how i feel about this version compared to the other, it’s no surprise the “sexy armor” version is getting more attention.
Your art is great Ambris, i’ve been a huge fan of it in all forms for a long time. Lots of us appreciate the less suggestive stuff as well, it’s not going unnoticed :)
But you know, it’s a little frustrating when I put a lot of effort in this version, and it just doesn’t make as big of a splash., simply because less skin is showing.
For the record, I never want to damn fan-service–I’d be lying if I said I didn’t love it. But it’s also true that I really love this kind of art, a version that can be taken more seriously.
In a perfect world, I would like to see a good balance of both of these aesthetics–with neither version being more popular. Because both have merits, and limiting our culture to approving one style and damning the other just limits our growth as a culture.
That’s why I did both versions. I’m more inclined to support this version though, seeing as it’s actually the rarer variety, and responses like yours demonstrate a bit of a. . .hateful streak that I don’t appreciate.
FanOfMostEverything and Marvelous TK weren’t saying anything hateful about the fan-service version. They were just expression frustration at it’s popularity versus this version–and that’s something that I, as the artist, appreciate. I put a lot of effort into both versions, and I hope that people can appreciate both for what they are.
*what’s ruining fantasy and entertainment.
Forgot a single letter, but my point still stands.
What, so it’s a bad thing that straight men, who make up a significant portion of the fandom gravitate towards the fan-servicey version? Psss, whatever. Of course people will complain, but whereas in the past I would have rolled my eyes now it pisses me off. Attitudes like this are what’s comics, games, and escapist fantasy in general.
In case you’re curious, It requires you to take three levels in Rogue for the +2d6 Sneak Attack, then I believe It is six of seven levels in Bard for a Level 3 Spell (Which you want either way - Invisibility is amazing and only a 2nd level Spell, and Glibness gets you a +30 to bluff checks, which is a third level spell, just remember to pick Mage Hand as a 0 level spell.) and you can pick Arcane Trickster, also known as Arcane Rogue. You really just want to pick one level, then go back into full progression of Rogue. I know It’s weird. You could also grab a level of Warlock, because why the hell not.
More fantasy art in general. The chainmail bikini aesthetic dates back to Gygax and Arneson, if not earlier.
Kind of annoying, then, that the bikini-mode fanservice armor version is quickly the more popular one, on account of bikini-mode fanservice and all. Blagh. Sometimes this site/the net in general, you know?
