I guess so. And I guess she said that they wouldn’t “take it easy” on him since he’d obviously be at a disadvantage since he’s not used to wearing a wig, a dress and shoes. It confused me at first, since stallions are obviously stronger and faster than mares, but it eventually came to me.
Well, people kept making a connection between Orchard Blossom and transgenders. I believe it’s considered offensive to refer to a transgender by their original gender. So when Rainbow Dash publicly called OB a stallion, I kept imagining PC types throwing a fit about that “slur”. Like PC Principal.
Ah okay. Thanks for that.
Just poking fun at identity politics idiots who for some reason thought that episode was “transphobic” when there was nothing about trans in the episode.
What’s the joke? Still going over my head. Doesn’t really make sense since stallions are obviously superior in strength and speed. If anything Big Mac would have to take it easy on them.
I know I’m late. Just passed by this pic.
Next thing you know rainbow dash has a nightmare about how she(and scootaloo) are under court for breaking the rules
“No. Instead, I want to call you my friend.” weakly extends hoof out to Spike
Spike: So you’re never gonna call me the same as a tortoise again?
beat him*
Yeah, unless writers make instances like that more common, then I’m gonna kick their collective asses to the moon. Say hello to the Nightmare Forces to me, scumbags.
“We can’t be him. He’s too powerful…”
But it’s not a matriarchy… there has never been an indication in the show that one gender is advantaged over the other socially or economically, we’ve seen ponies of both genders doing all sorts of things, and the show has never portrayed one gender as superior or dominant in Equestrian society. No gender roles being enforced, etc.
You can argue that their government is technically matriarchal at the top levels, since the current alicorns are female. But their society? No. And mind you, gender wouldn’t be relevant to who can become an alicorn, it’s a matter of merit and being capable for the job. Starswirl and Sunset Shimmer both came close to becoming one.
And while the show focuses more on its female characters in that they often get more screentime and we see more into their lives, the show has never portrayed one gender as superior or dominant in their society.
Anyway, no, I’m VERY much sure that Dash isn’t sexist. Again, she said that because he was at a clear disadvantage, not because she is sexist or anything ridiculous like that.
Or, like Mega said, you could just not take lines like that seriously in the first place.
Also, from what we’ve seen up to this point, Equestria is only a matriarchy in the sense that all its known rulers were female - note that it hasn’t been confirmed that males are unable to ascend to royalty - whether or not males are able to ascend to royalty - , but stallions are clearly treated as equals, with many of them holding important social positions and prestige, and at no point have we seen any character claiming women are superior than men in any way. In fact, there have been no lines in this show regarding roles attributed to each gender, as far as I can recall.
It’s quite jarring to criticize MLP for being female dominated when there are so many male dominated shows out there. TBQH, a show being gender-inclined or even gender-exclusive (to either gender) isn’t bad in itself, if done right - the problem is when a genre favours one gender way too much over another, not only through numbers, but specially treatment. Same goes for race/sexuality/etc. But IRL context may aggravate an issue that might seem minor inside the medium…
OT: They are obviously poking fun at the old cliché of a guy telling a girl that he’s not going to go easy on her through expectation subversion, and it’s not meant to indicate anything about RD’s character. It’s one of those one-off gags that makes a character go OOC briefly for the sake of Rule of Funny, like when Homer suddenly says something really clever in The Simpsons.
The show, maybe, but I’m not shure about Equestria. I mean, it’s a matriarchy after all.
Rainbows comment was indeed sexist, but i blame Rainbow, not the show.
Actually I’m really sorry for Big Mac. Must be really hard to be one of the few named male characters in a female dominated cartoon.
runs over an old mare, only for ponies to applaud
“Buckle up, buckaroo!”
