Blame Corp for this
Just sayin’
first of all op, you should be specific on what you mean by “butt pillow”. do you literally mean a pillow made of cotton fabric, but butt-shaped? do you mean a more 3d pillow made of memory foam? what the fuck do you mean
the material is going to be the most important because you want to add a liquid element to this. honestly what might be best is going for a material that you can have infused with a scent, and also offer an unscented version. liquids, even perfumes, can stain or leave nasty residues in fabrics.
perfumes, essential oils, etc can all cause skin reactions for those with sensitive skin. keep that in mind because you can potentially cut out a large section of potential customers if you don’t. you’re already targeting an extremely niche market as is, so don’t cut it any smaller.
it’s also why i’ll say that you shouldn’t make this your “business”. it’s a side project at most that may or may not turn a profit. it’s why i kept all my merch runs in low quantities. this fandom is old and while there are a lot of people still here, not everyone who is here is going to want something so ridiculously niche as what you’re thinking of. when you’re not making it 100% by yourself, merch is fucking expensive to produce, especially because you almost always have to buy it in bulk.
good luck if you’re serious about this op, because it’s not easy to make this stuff. it’s really stressful tbh
@Furtive Tactics
Also this. If you’re planning to pander to ass lovers you better surround yourself with professionals and potential clients willing to help you design both the smell and the feel of your pillows. The last thing you want is a boringly average apple scented pillow, an ass pillow that does’t feel nor smell like ass.
If you fear copyright strikes just name/design your pillows the same way Bad Dragon named their toys, what @Background Pony #B105 said basically. It worked for them, it’ll probably work for you as well.
First off, this product has a market. Why does it have a market? Because men, and some women, love the smell of ass.
I am one of these people.
That aside, this kind of pillow is marketable, but you need a design. You have an artist rendition here, and that’s good, but the first flaw I see is how this would stay with the print that you have in mind. The only suggestion or guess I have is that you’ll need stiff foam for some parts and soft foam for others.
Back to the ass smell, I highly recommend working with people who are great at rating smells, and also working with chemists, to make perfume for your pillows that represents the smell you want as the hint, and then add the smell of sweat and ass. This will make the perfume highly desirable.
Then set up a little Ebay shop and go from there. and dont quit your day job just yet.
as far as hasbro letting you, HELL NO they wont. As far as I understand its technically illegal for these custom plushie makers, and artists to profit off of their copy written IP. But as long as you stay small and dont have a huge business, only making “commissions” or what have you, you stay off their radar/its not worth the resources/ bad PR attacking the core fan base.
you might be better off directly asking the people who are already in such a business. just look up the plushie tag. you are bound to find someones contact info for commissions.

@SweetSoundOC
Do you think Hasbro would let me make the pillows? What if I made generic colorful horse butt pillows and let the customers imagine they were the MLP cast, would that get around copyright issues if Hasbro said “No” to MLP butt pillows?
