you know, at least with Mayuri it does kind of make sense since his entire army is just a disposable artificial object after another, they didn’t look as though they were designed to be anything more than a minor scientific breakthrough, but then again, there is that Reigai arc..
yeah, I see your point about Bleach, but as for me I grew tired of it. I find One Piece far more interesting with its unconventional story telling and much more abundant element of a surprise. Then again, it’s not a splendid story, but when it gets good, it gets really good and that at least makes it worth the patience, plus, I still like all of the characters now just as much as I did when first introduced to them. :p
So when he retreads the entire thing ala Gin and Aizen these two bozos just spam endlessly reviving troops at each other. Still ongoing so I have no idea yet how Kubo plans to actually ‘one-up’ his invincible boring badguy, especially since he knows everything about everyones’ powers having been sleeping inside Ichigo’s sword the whole time. (Seriously, that revelation is still so ridiculous)
At this point I just can’t look away, I have to see the trainwreck through. Every issue just somehow manages to get worse. Also Uryu Ishida betrayed everyone but no one cares about him anyway.
(Seriously, the only person who says anything is Ichigo. Even Chad doesn’t mention anything despite being part of the original nakama of the series.)
Oh, another ridiculous revelation was that Team Mom Unohana was with newguy the whole time as well, so Kenny
had to kill herjob her before he got jobbed himselfyeah, I know he didn’t die, because he couldn’t be killed, even though that makes no god damn sense as they’re making him out to be immortal when the Hogyoku clearly abandoned him for no reason that we just have to accept is true, as well as be told to us why it’s true.
I know a little bit of this arc though, but I just wasn’t interested in reading it all that much. Now that I look at it though, I can certainly see why I wasn’t interested. I mean, wow, even as far as threats went by I thought Kubo was pretty uninspired before with the exception of Jin Kariya and Aizen, but now I’m convinced he just gave up all together. That villain is the most comical power house that I’ve seen in a show.
Is his entire character just that he’s better at everything than everyone is at anything?
Aizen wasn’t even dead! He returned and got reduced to a DAMN FILLER GOON just to show what a badass new guy was compared to any of the previous dudes.
Also do you remember what a big deal was made about sparing the female Arrancar?
Kubo unfortunately remembered he did that…And I’m thankful he didn’t remember Chizuru or Tatsuki or else they would have been ENSLAVED like Mila, Apache, and Harribel were. Once again, offscreen curb-stomp battle where we only see the aftermath. I hate this dude so much, fuckin’ villain sue.
He’s defeated Aizen, Yama, Ichigo, and four captains all by himself. The fuck he even need an army for?
And then there was THIS ridiculous revelation (and why Ichigo can’t hurt him leeeeeel)
I swear I’ve never encountered someone who makes me shout in anger so much reading his work. So often I end a chapter with “WHAAAAAT?” or “THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU” or “WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS?”
Also he was able to block an un-patched Kenpachi WITH HIS OWN BODY It’s like some damn kid’s SI fanfic.
Oh I almost forgot that he was also working with Mayuri to slaughter his own people and cull the weak Quincy.
It’s this kind of nonsense writing Reflections (and now Longhorn) reminded me of.
not much else to say than add my own versions here of what I found working and where Kubo just, completely shat all over his ideas.. Needless to say, I think above all else, all of the broken ideas, the one thing that broke the backs of many people was the ending of Aizen. It was so stupid that the majority of fans agreed in how much it sucked.
I do get that though, it was a really dumb decision to take for such a memorable and rather dark tone of the story.
Maybe I won’t be pissed at romances if they stopped pairing well-developed likable characters with boring, one-dimensional fuckwits who exist solely to be a love interest.
I’d be fine if, say, Rarity got in a relationship with Fancy Pants, who has an actual likable personality.
Thing is, I like a good love story, but Reflections isn’t a good love story, it just isn’t. Celestia’s character is completely derailed so that she may make the decisions that she makes in the story, G!Sombra being even blander and more one-dimensional than his evil counterpart, making the love about as compelling as two planks laying on top of eachother. Not to say in how mismanaged the romance was, with all time on it spent on just how much they wuuuuv eachother instead of fleshing out Sombra, or exploring how they got into the relationship, what they see in eachother aside from G!Sombra being dreamy, and how they try to work it out despise it being under such difficult circumstances, or how their weaksauce love story overtook every single aspect of Reflections that could have been potentially interesting and squandered time that could have been useful to actually establish why E!Celestia and E!Luna were such a major threat.
You want an example of a love story that I do like? Zidane and Garnet in Final Fantasy IX, boom.
What would misanthropy even have to do with it?
Hell there was a near year-long stretch where HE FORGOT THE MAIN CHARACTER
Ichigo was just about absent from all of the ending of the Hueco Mundo arc, which turned into “Watch the captains pwn these randos who are here for this one fight and have no significance to the plot after” (which we see him constantly repeat in subsequent arcs), then he came back at the end to get into a fight with his dad then Aizen. (and there was a monstrous asspull about his dad knowing everything that was going on because he was secretly working with the guy with the funny hat and formerly a Captain himself)
You can bet if certain characters like Chad, Rukia (who he seems to have to FORCE to win because her bankai power is retarded and relies on someone monologuing villainously while she powers up) and Orihime weren’t a part of Ichigo’s nakama, they would have been lost to the mists of time as well.
Some time after he introduced Soul Society he seems to have wanted to make the main character either Kenpachi or Byakuya, because with the exception of fighting the Final Boss all the time, Ichigo is very nearly written out at this point. And Renji, his hotblooded rival, barely seems to exist either. The entirety of Kurakara town seems to have also become a non-entity after Aizen’s defeat. Damn thing has been Self-insert fanfic since Ulquiorra went down.
And speaking of that guy what the hell is up with all the fucked up unpronounceable names? The newest arc involving the supposedly extinct Quincies coming back full force, and evil and crazy and pseudo-nazis for some reason (They’re literally fucking Millenium from Hellsing) is full of German Wordsalad names (“And then there’s these assholes). Of course the Arrancars had quite a few tonguetwisters too, like http://bleach.wikia.com/wiki/Nirgge_Parduoc and http://bleach.wikia.com/wiki/Aaroniero_Arruruerie
it was a pretty slow and steady progression into mediocrity, at least filled with enough good to lull is into it till the very bad conclusion each and every time.
The worst for me besides the end, was the 3rd squad captain filler arc, I have never seen a more pointless filler than that in my life and the problem is that it presented a very neat and For once in the show’s life since a very long time, something new and refreshing! a new idea for how to expand the show’s story, at long fucking last something that wasn’t just a retread of the same two stories Bleach had in other seasons!
but then, it was all gone, just like the filler arc.
I still believe Bleach had far more promise, making its fall from grace that much more significant.
With the major difference that at the very least Flash was an original character, not something that bastardized a character that I liked.
And he also wasn’t involved in the ruination of my favorite character.
Yes, Gary Stu. The “good world” Sombra was just about as shallow as Flash Sentry.
…That is incredibly retarded.
I mean, Jesus, I know that after 7 years you’re bound to forget a few details, but NEVER RE-READING YOUR MATERIAL is a SHITTY FUCKING IDEA.
Then again, I am opposed to stories taking so long to end.
Kubo has a multitude of interviews during the Zanpaktou Rebellion arc where people ask him why the quality dropped so hard and where this or that character disappeared to who could have been useful went.
He straight up said he doesn’t re-read his past materials ‘to avoid unduly influencing the direction’
The series is literally a 7 year long stream-of-consciousness livejournal fanfic, with all the horrific contradictions that would imply. That post in question shows Katie being guilty of the same thing, forgetting the characterisation she’d already given to the mane 6. (and those who aren’t completely ooc are in gradual decline) Remember Toriyama and Launch? That’s essentially what happened to Ashido.
Only…..
This wasn’t the only time it would happen. Because he never exposed himself to his old works and ‘outdated ideas’ he also forgot:
and all these guys
There’s probably a lot more but they were the most noticable since they were the ones I liked the most.
Also he tends to snark at his fans knowing his universe’s rules better than him in the omake strips, he essentially just lucked out into being a famous shounen guy.
Feels like it all went to pot after the pirates, similar to how post-soul-society Kubo made nonsensical asspull after asspull to avoid hitting the walls he was writing in front of himself.
I’m, not exactly sure what niggoslav meant either..
maybe he’s comparing the parallels between Bleach and IDW’s FIM excellent introduction to bad progression of the story, which only got worse as more and more time went by.
I… know fuck-all about Bleach.
guy who made Bleach.
…who?
Cook is pretty much Tite “I-don’t-read-my-past-shit-or-understand-this-universe” Kubo of pony at this point
Why should he go to the effort of forming his own opinion, when the fandom can give him the correct opinion without him having to bother with all that annoying reading? </sarcasm>
You missed the bit about him forming his own opinion.
Why? :(
Honestly, don’t bother if you’re a Celestia fan, it’ll just piss you off.
See, yeah, I’ll agree with you on that. Though maybe I should form my own opinion of the work as a whole, rather than just basing it on the small snippets I’ve seen and what other people have said. …Which is something I should really do for… well, all of the comics I’ve fallen behind on (though I will DEFINITELY be skipping the Bookworm two-parter and issues 25-26).
Then why wasn’t that the focus of the story? Why wasn’t Celestia escapades to the Mirror Universe portrayed as escapism from a mare with too much on her platter trying to escape from the crushing loneliness and guilt that she finds in her life? Why did it need to be portrayed as a romantic story about two star-crossed lovers?
