The fandom has been pretty full of Neighsayers ever since G5 got past it’s opening movie, but to be honest I’ve never understood why.

Yeah, Make Your Mark opened up with some… okay, a LOT of animation wonk for it’s first episode, but it got better and overcame that - and I knew it would.

When Friendship is Magic has it’s animation errors and flaws early on, we never let that stop us from loving it and what it was trying to do. We didn’t hate the show for it’s flaws. We fell in love with Derpy Hooves and raised her up instead. From animation error to beloved character.

I’ve long felt like so many people never gave G5 the proper chance it deserved too… but I’m not going to let that ruin it for me.

I cherish the friendship lessons Twilight and her friends gave us.
I loved seeing Starlight grow into a better person.
And I adore seeing Sunny and her friends carrying on their legacy.

I agree, the fandom has been way too harsh, way too negative, and way too quick to write off anything that came after FiM because it isn’t FiM… this type of thing regretablly happens often when fans of something are really passionate about it… look at the Star Wars fandom for instance.

But I am not about to let fandom salt ruin one of the best thing that’s ever happened to me and my life. MLP has made me a better person… it’s given me the greatest and most treasured friends I could ever ask for, and it’s even given me my husband. Equestria and the wonderful ponies in it are one of the reasons I am still here today to write this message.

And I won’t let go. Not until I have no strength left with which to hold onto it.

I know that can’t fix what you’ve been through and what you’re going through… but… at least for me, I decided a long time ago to just let the fandom negativity be background noise. It isn’t important. People can hate it all they like, but that isn’t going to stand between me and my enjoyment of it.

I don’t like Wild Manes out of a hate for G5. I like it, if anything, probably because I like MLP. Before MLP I never would’ve given Wild Manes a chance and I learned a powerful lesson when I gave MLP a chance, that sometimes it’s worth it to give things a try.

I’m indifferent towards this show, I’m not interested in checking it out, it looks whatever to me and it doesn’t have anything to do with how it looks strikingly similar to TYT. If anything, I think the show is using the same colorful, stiff Flash animation that other web shows are doing including Tell Your Tale itself. Maybe when I’m bored and there isn’t anything else for me to watch I’ll check it out but I’ll reserve my judgement on whether the show is good or not. And of course I don’t look down on others who watch it obviously.

Ironically, g5 only fans like it too. I’ve yet to revisit their discord server, but aside from their superb friendliness, they are also extremely open as well. Most of said g5 creators are drawing it as well as g5 still. Name me one g5 creator who thinks this is better than what they’re already consuming. There isn’t.

I don’t expect WM to be actually good. The #1 red flag is that they cast an AJ soundalike as a stereotypical surfer girl. Wrong accent, sweet cheeks.

That said, I’ll treat it like I’ve treated MLP since around S7 of FiM: watch just enough to understand the character of the ponies, then write stories or hop on message boards based on that alone.

Well, all poignant reminders aside, I have mixed feelings about Wild Manes myself too. Sure, it probably won’t provide much further connection outside of G5, and let alone overstate broader G4 continuity, but rest assured, regardless of your tastes, it could still be interesting. And circumstances as they were, nobody would parse the upper latter into giving G5 credit for trying, despite losing their color palette of interest and diving headlong into something more generically invaluable. People can only do so much just to impress their general audience, considering the fact that not everything always comes full circle in and of itself. Our condolences.

Moral of the story: You’re not allowed to like anything

I personally think you’d be happier if you focused on South Park and took some time away from Derpibooru. I’m still a big G5 fan but I agree that the fandom has become much more negative since G4 concluded and Wild Manes is over-hyped.

Sorry guys, I can’t be the positivity and the sunshine of Derpibooru forever. All the negativity eventually destroyed those and it did a long time ago. It only got worse when I kept seeing “This looks better than TYT”, “G5 set such a low expectations this is more welcoming”, “I’d watch this over G5” toward this random show seemingly as generic as TYT. Even I’m starting to believe G5 sucks hard. And somehow me saying this show that has nothing to do with MLP is bad attitude comepared to people continuing to put down the official next generation. Either it is true that G5 really is nothing but a big and hollow disappointment or the fandom is being too negative, it doesn’t matter. The point is it was hard for me to be positive toward MLP already and the popularity of Random Horse Show Number 3 just hurts more. I’ve lost love and interest toward it and this thing just makes it disappear further. I don’t see the point of being positive when it is so exhausting.

I’m only this cynical toward horse shows though. Ironically South Park offered more sunshine and colors to me right now. It’s a raunchy show but offers more genuineness and wholesomeness than anything horse related right now.

Old Wayne probably wouldn’t care for it either, but he probably wouldn’t be this vocal about it. Sorry about that. I don’t necessarily hate it. I just… don’t want to like it, not again with another horse show.

Unfortunately, I think Wayne might have a point. Not sure how valid the POV is, but seems reasonable. Wayne’s point isn’t about liking both or even liking Wild Manes as is… it’s people liking Wild Manes out of hatred for G5 (and people who hate G5 generally do so simply because it doesn’t meet G4 expectations when we all knew it probably wouldn’t, among other reasons like feeling those who like G5 have forgotten and betrayed G4).

Assuming Wild Manes is not legitimately that good (maybe passible), it’s just something different, kind of like rebound dating. If you hate something so incredibly much (G5) and especially if you don’t understand why, by your perception something else subpar might appear really good to you (Wild Manes).

Overall, fandoms are getting tense because corporate big wigs are devolving their IP content with recycled clichés, references for nostalgic feel-goods, and all manner of things outside the bounds of simply producing good, entertaining, and immersive content. And it seems like the only thing remotely new is just an imitator… another corporate big wig looking at something that was successful and copy-pasting it for a cash grab.

As someone who’s watched all episodes, Filly Funtasia really wasn’t all that good anyway (but at least way better than Wild Manes). I honestly agree that it’s truly bizzare how much the climate around the fandom has changed over the years. If this was 2013 Wild Manes would’ve absolutely been laughed out the door.

Then again, a lot of the WM fans are also G5 fans, so at least that checks out.
