Description

The popular stories of Vinyl Scratch being a vampire has sparked quite a lot of interesting fan theories and fiction and art around her. The popular counterpart argument is the belief that Octavia is a werewolf/werepony. This is something I for on am totally on board with. :)

I know this is an old post, but believe it or not what you described with werewolves just so happens to be their earlier incarnation in pop culture. Werewolves, at least in the modern world, didn’t start becoming the archetype you mentioned until about the early 1980’s, probably so that they could compete with the emerging slasher films as well as reflect the growing cynicism permeating that decade and subsequent decades as well.

Really? I thought it was always just for fun or a joke; there are bronies who thought that was a real theory? Of course Vinyl isn’t really a vampire, any more than Pinkie’s really a serial killer; Lyra being a human is closer to being possible than that.

Yeah, well … it is an old fanon. I wasn’t a brony back in season one, but I’ve heard it dates back that far. It’s not surprising it doesn’t really hold up as a legitimate theory anymore.

tbh I always thought Octavia would make a better vampire than Vinyl. I think she just has a more fitting personality.

Too many ponies are white to use her pelt colour as an argument and her eyes have been confirmed not red.

Yeah, Weretavia’s pretty interesting, and I think it’s sometimes undervalued because it’s usually just used as reaction against Vampire Scratch, and the possibilities beyond that are not explored much. But the thing is, Vampire Scratch started as a common headcanon because of her strong similarities to the vampire archetype. Weretavia is a fictional lycanthrope whose established character is a direct contradiction to the archetypal werewolf. I’ve been consuming every bit of werewolf fiction I could since I was kid, so I can say with some certainty that werewolf characters tend to be uncertain or childish new werewolves who are too afraid to commit suicide, or filthy, violent villains who are animalistic even in human form. Rage is an element you find in most any werewolf’s character. Octavia, though, is very clean-cut, polite and composed, someone you’d never guess was a lycanthrope. Someone who looks like her turning out to be the werewolf would probably be a twist ending in most pulp horror. But looking at it from her perspective, as this picture does, that contrast could drive a lot of pathos from a character standpoint.
