The fact that they went to the trouble of making at least some of the crowd distinct characters is still impressive, though.

In any other animated show, the crowd would’ve just been faceless blobs with no defining features.
 
This just shows how awesome MLP is, by making each pony or other creature in the crowd one of the distinct characters and even using it to throw in a bunch of cameos.
 
…Though I was disappointed with the lack of a Lightning Dust cameo.

No, not why those guys got good seats, I’m asking why legitimate members of the royal family were somehow stuck with regular seating. You’d think with having a prince as a son and a princess for a daughter you’d get more than a phone call on holidays and some chocolates.

Maybe it’s because Twilight’s friends had a hoof in saving Equestria from certain doom multiple times in the past, and have control of the Elements, so far the most powerful magic in the whole universe.

Night Light and Twilight Velvet! Hey wait a second, Prince Shining Armor’s parents and Cadance’s parents-in-law showed up and they’re stuck with commoner seats? What’s up with that? Even Twilight’s friends got close to the royals.

Nah, they established in Sonic Rainboom talking to the bullies that early Flight Camp and Junior Speedsters were the same thing, and she left the whole thing in her teens. No evidense it took place anywhere else but Cloudsdale, and as far as I could tell, it was a year round thing. But to be fair, we have limited info on RD there, and pegasi in general.
 
Also, it was pretty telling that while she showed disdain for Flight Camp, her fondest memories of it besides earning her cutie mark and…‘defending Fluttershy’s honor’… were linked to Gilda only. She was grinning like a little kid when they suggested they do the cheer together.
 
(Sorry, I’ve always felt that line was a little weird until it showed she was raised early by a single father. Tomboy or not, that phrase comes from the nobler side of chauvinism…not something most tomboy’s would say)

I assumed that Junior Speedsters Flight Camp was a summer camp, and thus not geographically limited. My understanding is that Rainbow Dash would still be living in Cloudsdale, but she would go away for the summers to this location.

Spitfire and Fleetfoot said she grew up training in Cloudsdale in the Rainbow Falls episode.
 
Flight Camp included Youth Training for kids and Junior Speedsters for teens, where Gilda was in with RD.
 
That’s why RD was qualified to compete for Cloudsdale.

We never actually learned where the Flight Camp was. For all we know, it was in the sticks.

Gilda’s the type to vent by training, and she was already almost as fast as RD way back then. And it was revealed that RD was holding back in the academy until she helped create the tornado that LD couldn’t take. So its fair to assume Gilda’s in the same ballpark as RD but somewhat slower, probobly a bit faster then LD and a heck of a lot stronger.
 
But I doubt the last year has been a joy on her temperment. She probobly aced most Griffon races but was eventually kicked out of official tournies due to her trust issues and temper.
 
Besides, Gilda learned to fly in a CLOUDSDALE flight camp, and RD was her only friend. The Griffons represent a Griffon exclusive city/town. I’m doubt she has any love to wherever she comes from originally.
 
But…
 
…she still wanted to watch Rainbow Dash in the Equestria Games :)
 
And as for RD, she still thought griffons were cool and Gilda was one of her precious memories in her eyes 0:51

I’m guessing her crummy attitude got her disqualified or something. Pity, I would have liked a montage bit which included Gilda and Lightning Dust neck in neck in a race, and a Ponyvillian like Thunderlane in third.
