Don’t forget about Nightmare Moon, Daybreaker, the Tantabus, the Mean Six, the Giant Timberwolf and his three components seen in “Spike at Your Service”, the Mean Six, the Windigos, the Plunderseeds, the Monster Plants seen in Friendship Games, a load of Storm Creatures, and a load of Changelings. And also, even though the Storm King’s eyes started to move in the ending credits, I still believed that the Storm King is technically still dead and his eyes moving is presumably an animation error.

Radiant Hope resurrecting Sombra is not canon anymore because the season nine premiere two-parter titled “The Beginning of the End” resurrected Sombra in a different and proper way.

Well, the Storm King did died. And it could be possible that his eyes moving while he’s still petrified but broken seen in the credits is presumably an animation error.

Krusty The Clown: Well kids, we all know that sometimes when movie characters die, they’re back again the very next film. That’s why I’m presenting this sworn affidavit that the Storm King will never, ever, ever return!

Besides, it’s a hundred times lighter than Applejack’s parents being dead.

Fair points. However, that does bring up two things worth noting:
Despite the end credits likely being “Comedic Additions”, I’m pretty sure I saw the guards lined up behind a gate with Bulk letting them in, since they brought presents. THAT bit I could actually see as being somewhat “Canon” to the post-movie.
That last bit where they thought Twilight was “Gone” seemed a bit… idunno… unnecessary? I mean, sure the whole “Hero thought to be dead” routine’s pretty much Movie 101 at this point, but… well… she’s an Alicorn? Hell, even if she lost control of her flight, I literally commented out loud, “Aight, folks! Storm’s clear, now someone go fly out there and grab the princess, so… or, you could just start crying, while she does the flying work herself. No, it’s fine! Go ahead, the plot’s likely to “Bring her back” in just a few more seconds- called it!”

And on an unrelated note, it was a great movie, but definitely not 5/5 Material in my opinion. Maybe 4/5, actually. Graphics style was very cool, don’t get me wrong, but it felt a bit “Foreign” to me. Thankfully they got the characters and their personalities (MOSTLY) right, though there were a few issues on that to reduce the points. Namely, Twilight acting a little Out-Of-Character at times. Sure, she’s a lot more thoughtful, (somewhat) matured now, and very open to making friends, but trying to steal the pearl was… likely something she would’ve TRIED doing Pre-Season 1 (since she had the instinctive nature to charge TOWARDS a Hydra which, as we all know, might not be one of her BRIGHTEST moments…), but NOT past the point of her becoming a princess! And then when she lashed out at her friends, I can see that ANGER would likely make her say things she doesn’t mean. I’m aware of THAT bit. However, even still, her “Freak-Out” sessions have made it clear that, while mostly unclear thoughts were in control of her actions, she STILL did a small fragment of just that… put THOUGHT into those actions. “Make a Friendship Problem, so that the Princess doesn’t send you away from your friends”. That kind of backwards thinking, though fueled from fear, anxiety, and large traces of frustration, was still, in SOME way, THINKING. To say that her future would’ve been better off WITHOUT friends like them, AFTER SEEING FIRST-HOOF WHAT NOT HAVING THEM TOGETHER WOULD DO TO EQUESTRIA, sorry, but I just can’t see the Twilight of TODAY saying something like that… like, ever. Even through stress. But eh, that’s just another snippet to add to “Plot Devices that are just there to add more drama”, I guess… not like any TV Series or Movie Spinoffs are safe from those, right?

I think the credits aren’t meant to be taken seriously. It was played for comedy, but in all seriousness he’s as dead as Sombra and Midnight Sparkle, and if he is still alive in that state it wouldn’t be any less torturous than Tartarus. Tempest was the villain to get the big redemption.

Now, the exact fate of the Pony of Shadows is a little hard to figure out: It’s unambiguous he gets separated from Stygian and banished to limbo. But since you’re frozen in time in limbo, and he presumably never gets out again, what will his eternity be? He’s not conscious for his imprisonment any more than when Twilight was turned to stone by the cockatrice (unlike Discord), and he’s not dead so his soul’s not damned to Tartarus.

Also of note, the Storm Creatures all either got set on fire by Capper and Spike or sucked into the Storm King’s tornado from which they never reappeared. We never see what happens to Grubber after the pirates capture him, beyond the credits which again are hard to take seriously

At first, I was like, “Aight, Hasbro. How are we reforming this villain?

But then, after the movie, I was like, “DAFUQ, HABRO?! THAT’S A LITTLE DARK, DON’T YA THINK?!

And now, I’m like, “I guess you could say his plan crumbled before his very eyes.” “That ending sure rocked!” “It left me over the edge!” “A fitting end, for one with a heart of STONE.” “Hey, Maud! We might’ve found more pebbles for your collection!” “Well, guess this villain wasn’t all he was CRACKED up to be!” “That was quite a SMASHING performance you did at the end there, Storm King!” “If you think THAT’S bad, his eyes were still moving in the credits.” “So, while the ponies keep you as a living trophy, I’ve gotta ask… how’s it feel having all your limbs severed, pal?” “This will leave quite the IMPACT on his career.” “… Where the hell was DISCORD in all of this? Y’know… besides the balloon version of him at the opening…” “Capper’s hands were on Spike’s tail and his legs when using him as a flamethrower, right? So was the trigger supposed to be his… eh, nevermind.” “Hey, Starlight! Mind using your OP Magic to do something, or did they nerf you to give the Mane 6 more screen time?” “Where’s Derpy, where’s Derpy? Oh, there she is!” “Derpy, NOOOOOOO!” “Yay, Derpy’s back! :D” “Hey, Bulk! I see the Crimson Chin let you borrow some of his face design there at the end!” “Brace yourselves, Fandom… new ships are coming… with perhaps a good deal of ‘Twipest’ (‘Twizzlepop’?) and ‘SkyPie’ (‘PinkStar’?). No clue HOW many people are gonna ship Capper with someone, but I have a strange feeling it’s gonna be a lot.” “Well, THAT escalated quickly!” “At least when Twilight and her friends say they have a ‘Friendship Problem’, THAT pretty much means ‘The Apocalypse is near’ in Equestrian.”

I’ve got a few more afterthoughts, but there might not be enough room in the comments section. xD

I think the reason nopony’s really debated his death is coz they don’t care enough about the movie to. I’ve seen the reviews, it’s seen as lame and too generic and predictable.
Background Pony #3387
Make that the second season, I forgot Season 1 is two parts. Its dub will hopefully be finished this year or early next year, and once it’s on DVD…
Background Pony #3387
Oh and I always go by English dubs of any anime. I prefer hearing the English language to having to watch subtitles all the time and missing some of the action

@Mega PoNEO
Am looking forward to trying it once I know there’s a Part 3 (which features Dio’s final defeat).

Of course the Storm King’s most likely dead anyway, but I know that was just a lighthearted reference to JoJo
Background Pony #3387
@Mega PoNEO
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure? I haven’t seen it yet (and won’t until Season 3 gets dubbed) but I’ve heard of it.
Background Pony #3387
Who me?

Well, anyone who will debate that he survived, as they always do with just about every villain that dies. Sombra, Midnight, even Arimaspi.
Background Pony #3387
I think the general idea is the credits aren’t meant to be taken seriously. As far as the movie is concerned he is dead
Background Pony #3387
Of course, people are still going to use it as a platform to debate his status.

Also, “first canon death in MLP”? Shouldn’t that go to Sombra? Even if the comics were canon - and they’ve got too many inconsistencies by now, so let’s call parallel universe where things work a little differently - Sombra was still dead, he just returned as a ghost and Hope revived him.
Background Pony #3387
There IS a moment in the end credits where his stone body is (temporarily) pieced back together for the spotlight where it says his and Liev Schreiber’s name, and falls apart again. In the top fragment of his head, his eyes are moving around. But, this means nothing, because when he and other characters are turned to stone, their eyes are turned to stone along with the rest of them. Meaning a.) It’s not canon, just a way of showing the characters much like the credits of Puss in Boots (Humpty clearly died there and there is no explanation as to how he could really survive), or b.) Discord, who is seen in the background when Celaeno was in the spotlight (and she was RIGHT before the Storm King), animated his eyes as a reference to his comment about how he couldn’t roll his eyes when HE was a statue, and thinks it looks funny.

A.k.a., he’s still dead :)
Background Pony #3387
Just heard there is no postcredits scene. So, the coroner can get him a death certificate
Background Pony #3387
And on the Android app Rainbow Dash says “That’s the last we’ll see of the Storm King. He’s nothing but rubble now.” Every adaptation I’ve seen agrees that he smashed to pieces and suggests his death is final.

Also, according to the graphic novel, Twilight doesn’t save Tempest with her own magic, she uses the staff to save her. I think the staff loses its power once its magic is returned to Equestria and the princesses. So we can rule out Storm Creatures using the staff to revive him.
